We call know the classic Wordle trap, get it down to one letter with more
possibilities than guesses. For example S_ILL.

Well yesterday we found the Quordle trap. By guess 3 we were close on one
word and nowhere near on the others so we wasted three more guesses getting
it the one. Problem was that none of the letters we guessed to get it
helped with any of the other words. So we had three words with 0,1, and 2
letters known and three guesses left. No chance. I don’t have the results
to post because it was yesterday and I didn’t think to save it but we got 2
out of 4.

What we should have done was recognize the situation and work on the other
words, in doing that we probably would have got what we needed to finish
that one word at the end. But we had three correctly placed letters in one
word and literally nothing in the others so that would have taken more
discipline than we had.

I have my results on a different computer than I'm on right now, but yes, I got caught it the classic Wordle trap in Quordle yesterday. Spent way too many guesses on one word, such that I only had 2 guesses left to get three words. Got one and then got myself in a second classic Wordle trap on the only other one I could have gotten. 2/4. I looked at the other words as well but I had so few of them to even work on.

I doubt there’s many of us with the type of jobs where there’s no time at all to look at a phone or a computer. It is 2022 after all, and I bet most of us have professional white collar type jobs that involve sitting in front of a computer for at least part of the day. We’re not on top of a roof all day using a nail gun.

Have you never spent part of your working day posting on this group about anything? Is it ok for you to post about whatever, but if I spend a couple minutes playing quortle and Wordle then I’m a no good bum who needs to get a real job?

Hey, I just asked a question. I was assuming you guys were all retired, with the exception of xyzzy, who I know is an engineer that still works, gives talks, etc. I really don't keep up with this newsgroup regularly. I've been posting more recently now that I see that Frisbeedood posts. I play Wordle and the mini NYT Crossword puzzle each day, but don't really have time for all the other <thing>dls. I don't even doodle much anymore. I used to have people look over my shoulder and ask how I drew such square boxes. I have a pretty demanding job (for me). I write about Kafka connectors for software developers. It's kept me busy for 6 to 8 hours every day for a while now.. I basically write about 200 different little products. I have to hit the ground running every day and never stop for much, except for potential nuclear war, etc.

So much time in video meetings that don’t require my full attention. Like

See, your job isn't that demanding if you don't have to listen to the video meetings.

You also have/had a very nice house in a very nice part of the country. I’m willing to forgo that to have a more flexible daily schedule. It would be hard for me to work the way you work on a daily basis, without getting a big pay raise and the right medication. The communists were big on working for 8 hours, playing/eating for 8 hours, then sleeping for 8 hours. I would have been terrible communist.

I work for an understaffed startup in an extremely fast-paces tech sector. I will be working for this startup for another 11 months. At that point, I will be vested in all my incentive stock options, that are just barely incentive enough these days, what with the macro economic factors raining knives on my net worth. I actually enjoy having way too much to do all the time. I created all of these docs in the past year or so: https://docs.confluent..io/cloud/current/connectors/index.html#supported-connectors.

I don't even doodle much anymore. I used to have people look over my shoulder and ask how I drew such square boxes. I have a pretty demanding job (for me). I write about Kafka connectors for software developers. It's kept me busy for 6 to 8 hours every day for a while now. I basically write about 200 different little products. I have to hit the ground running every day and never stop for much, except for potential nuclear war, etc.

At that point, I will be vested in all my incentive stock options, that are just barely incentive enough these days, what with the macro economic factors raining knives on my net worth. I actually enjoy having way too much to do all the time. I created all of these docs in the past year or so: https://docs.confluent.io/cloud/current/connectors/index.html#supported-connectors.
my base is ~200K annually, which is pretty good for a tech writer

I get it. I'm done with this business in about 10 to 11 months. Looking forward to retirement. Not looking forward to dying later.

Also, I deleted two other posts that were not something I would want to exist on the internet forever. Cue some asshat responding to them from a "real newsreader" later. Whatever.

You’re lucky I happened to be on Google groups rather than my normal
newsreader or I might have responded to one of them before seeing that you
deleted them.
