Time Magazine's Charlotte Alter denounces free speech with the following statement:

"‘free speech’ in the 21st century means something very different than it did in the 18th, when the Founders enshrined it in the Constitution. The right to say what you want without being imprisoned is not the same as the right to broadcast disinformation to millions of people on a corporate platform. This nuance seems to be lost on some techno-wizards who see any restriction as the enemy of innovation.”"

There are two problems with this statement, Ms. Alter:

1) The courts have pretty much taken care of the distinction from which you speak -- we just tend to still call that which is left over "freedom of speech", when neither that it is or that it should be.

2) You're right on the concept of that there is a difference. But, (see #1) not only is your premise wrong, but there IS a difference between those two rights.

The first is what we believe to be freedom of speech.

The second is what happens when you would have freedom of the press.

Mike
