A GOP Alabama council member has caused outrage by using the N-word in a
public debate to refer to one of his Black colleagues.

When a member of the public said that she had used the N-word, Bryant
said: "Let's get to the N-word," which he referred to indirectly at

February 2021 Facebook post by Hampton Electoral Board Chair David
Dietrich. In the post, Dietrich attacked Austin—the first Black Defense

newspaper on Saturday.

Pretty outrageous claim but still a little funny. Personally, I don't
care for Joy Reid. But I could envision conservatives seriously
considering giving up 1 or 2% in marginal tax rates at upper income
levels (maybe all income levels) to be able to use the N-word with
impunity. SCOTUS could rule that use of the word is the purview of state
legislatures.

I hope you know where I'm coming from on this. I would love to live in
a society where it doesn't matter what your skin tone happens to be. I
worked with and for plenty of black people. All I cared about was
competence.
