Now that college football is somewhere between semi-pro and completely pro, I'm just not digging the lack of continuity. I prefer it when the guy who started last year is the guy who at least gets plenty of playing time this year. I don't like it when a school buys up new talent and the ex-starter then goes into the portal.

I understand that this is how it is now. I just don't like it.

My non-beef with it in that respect is that it basically formally and above-table professionalizes a sport long since professional.

I'm surprised you support the transfer portal, rather than that "draft kids out of high school and whatever NFL team 'owns' the college that drafts you is who you're playing for when you're called up" stuff you usually mention.

For example, I think you've got a Power Five school now who basically has hit the nuclear bomb on the program -- and if this doesn't work, I don't see much of a future at all for that school in football. Talking "going concern" here.

I don't mind it. I may have given an 8th Heisman Trophy to USC.

One thing I don't understand.

JT Daniels has already played for USC, Georgia, and West Virginia, and now he's in the transfer portal again.

You're only allowed one transfer without a one-year sit-out (and I don't think whatever the definition of the "graduate transfer rule" is this week applies to him), although for some reason, the NCAA gave him a waiver to play immediately for Georgia - but how does he get away with it this time?

Okay, there's a second thing - he wants a retroactive medical redshirt so he'll have two years of eligibility left, but he has already played five seasons, and even with the one-year COVID extension, doesn't his eligibility run out six years after he started college?

Plus he costs some coin.

He’s Exhibit A of why I no longer care about college football.

This is the first year in my life that I barely watched any games. Likewise, I quit watching college basketball as one and dones increased. It’s too bad they couldn’t have come to a more reasonable compromise. But NIL plus immediate transfers is basically free agency and I’m just not interested.

Olbermann had the proper term for the game years ago: College-pro football..

This just formalizes it and is the next step to what I've told NOTBCS is going to happen.

No point in watching most games anyway unless for background noise or alma mater.

Spenser Sanders is transferring out of OSU, he should transfer into OSU so he can keep the orange and black color scheme. Or to OSU to be reunited with the defensive coordinator that made his life easier last year.

In what I assume is a first, Austin Stogner, who transferred from Oklahoma to South Carolina this year, is transferring back to OU next year.

Don't think Nichol actually played for MSU before Oklahoma - apparently, he committed there, but changed his mind before enrolling anywhere.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if there are quite a few players who transferred, and then immediately transferred back - if you redshirted and didn't practice for more than 14 days, you could transfer back to your original school without the one-year sit-out (or, under today's rules, having it count as your one free transfer).

Not sure. I'll ask one of the local college football historians. I
went to the same HS as Nichol.

Congratulations, Caleb Williams! USC's 8th Heisman Trophy Award. More than any other NCAA school.

Fight On!

Strange - the Heisman Trust seems to think USC only has seven. By some chance, you're not counting the 2005 Heisman that was won by Vacated University of Indianapolis (probably its second-biggest "prize," after the 2013 NCAA Division I men's basketball championship), are you?

Reggie Bush will get his Heisman back and be fully accepted into the "club" before I bow out of this life.

Book it.
