The name won't mean much to most. To those like me who were around when he played, he'll be remembered as someone who sort of over-achieved, given his modest talents. An uncomplicated batter and in his era, a decent fielder. He played the game with dignity and was never in the news for anything controversial.

I especially recall his underrated performance in our WC '83 SF win over Blighty.
