Time for some math:
14% is solar
17% is wind
10% is coal
15% is gas
That's only 56% of the total
I assume quite a bit of the rest is nuclear, which the USA is not about to get any more of any time soon. I still remember the commotion about Diablo Canyon; now I hear it will be shut down by the end of 2025.

If you want the solar/wind-types' answer to cost, toss a coin
Heads: "The cost is, saving the planet"
Tails: "If there's a cost, then obviously we're not taxing the rich enough"

The stats you’re quoting are for the EU, not the US.

Our biggest energy source, and it isn’t even close, is gas.

I understand that. My point is, solar and wind "appear" to be winning in Europe, but only because they remain bit players. USA is not going to be in a similar situation where we can depend on nuclear power.

Which is ironic, because nuclear power is about the cleanest constant
power source we have.
