Dallas is all in on this year to the detriment of future years.
I disagree with the approach, but at least they are consistent with
their [IMO crazy] belief that this year is their best chance for the SB.

CHI gave more to NYG for #11 than PHI gave DAL for #10, but a
substantial part of the CHI offer is in 2022. Surely CHI offered as much
or more to DAL.

DAL got
#12 = 18.8
#84 = 6.4
total value of 25.2 in 2021.

NYG got
#20 = 15.5
#164 = 2.1
value of 17.6 in 2021
plus 1st and 4th round picks in 2022

The difference in 2021 of 7.6 in draft value according to the chart
corresponds to pick #69, a high 3rd round pick. Even if you
substantially discount future picks, I'd rather get the 1st in 2022.

Dallas prefers a slightly better 1st round pick this year to an extra
first round pick next year, even though the team is full of holes, has
a top heavy contract structure, and thus is badly in need of multiple
cheap starters.

I don't think there is a chance to win a SB with the albatross contracts
to Zeke and Amari. I would aim my cap structure towards trying to win
after those contracts reach the point they expire or can be cut.

The reason the Cowboys traded down was because they, at least, thought
Parsons was the 3rd best defensive player. They wanted Horn or Surtain.

For sake of argument, ignore the late rounders. Giants got 2 first
rounders, and Cowboys got a first and a third. How you evaluate it comes
down to which calculator you like. If you think that is close, then the
late rounders would push the argument to the Giants.

defensive player, 6.89 . The Giants pick 20 ranks
the 33rd overall player (2nd round grade), 6.36.
The Cowboys dropped 2 spots & got a 3rd rounder,
the Giants dropped 9 spots & drafted a player who
is ranked a 2nd rounder & this year got a 5th rounder.

Next year, the Giants scored, so in that draft + what
they do in 2022 is their payoff, but in 2021, right now,
hands down the Cowboys are more likely to improve
in 2021 than the Giants based on those draft move
downs.

What makes you think nfl.com is the best source? Or even competent?

Funny you think 6.89 for Parsons is better than 7.02 for Surtain.

The first three teams looking for defense treated Parsons as less
appealing than Horn and Surtain, CAR DEN and DAL. Maybe they know
something.

If you say the 20th pick is like a second rounder, you are just being
silly.

Dallas could have gotten Kwity Paye or Caleb Farley. Those were the next
two defensive players picked from 20 onwards. They also could have
gotten whichever LB didn't get taken in the teens by ARI and WAS
assuming one of them took Parsons, or even Greg Newsome who went later
but has a 6.4 grade on that prospects link.

Oh look, neither of the first two EDGE rushers picked [#18 by MIA and
#21 by IND] was in the top two on that prospects link either.

I guess the GMs and scouts of CAR, DEN, MIA, and IND are all less
competent than the ex-players who dominate the NFL network and nfl.com
opinions. Oops, forgot Newsome, add in incompetence for ARI and WAS as
well.

Or maybe those 6 teams aren't all stupid, and it's just nfl.com/prospects
that isn't trustworthy.

Right. If your goal is to win the SB this year, you do what DAL did.
If your goal is to maximize your chances over the next 5 years you do
what NYG did.

Total in 2022, 624 to 3,082 points

Cowboys traded 1300 points (pick 10) for 1200
points (pick 12) + 170 points (pick 84).

Total in 2021, 1370 points; however, arguably,
by getting the player ranked 6th best overall
by nfl.com/prospects, the actual value of that
player is worth 1600 points, so the total value
the Cowboys got in 2021 was 1770 points.

However, the Eagles got the player ranked
3rd best overall at nfl.com/prospects, so the
clear winner here is the Eagles as their player
was worth 2200 points. Of course, the Cowboys
needed defensive help, so drafting WR DeVonta
Smith not in their best interest.
