Costa Rica is on +2, USA at +9 and CAN at +13, so it looks quite unlikely that the Ticos can make up the GD deficit. But Canada is not qualified yet, and a USA win over Panama also doesn't guarantee them qualification

I did screw that up, but it's still basically there.

I'd need to concoct a scenario in which CAN would only go to the playoff.

CAN would need to lose twice, CRC would need to win twice, USA and MEX would both need to at least win one match (USA over PAN, MEX can do either or both), and then a goal difference make-up of about fourteen on CRC and five, even, on the USA.

In short, CAN would probably have to lose a couple of 7-0 shockers or something for it to even be POSSIBLE.

It's that other half that caught my interest:

Sunday: USA wins (per your hypothesis), CRC wins, MEX gets at least three points somewhere and somehow overtakes the USA in goal differential.

Probably requiring:

Wednesday: CRC routs USA (GD to make up, right now, is 7), MEX makes up a GD of 3, and you'd have USA third of three countries at 25.

Start REALLY having fun if CAN were to lose a couple wide shockers to the low end of the table.

Our GD would have to collapse, but it is indeed possible that CR and the
USA could both pass us. For that to happen the US would have to beat
Panama heavily (thus knocking them out completely ) then lose narrowly
to CR , while CR would have to pile on the goals in their next game.

Jamaica (since Panama can only get to 24, and one, at least of the USA
and CRC will not get to 25.) This scenario is dangerous for the USA for
sure, but I don't think it will get there, they have been good at home
and should get 3 points in their game vs. Panama.
