Why would Wales be in pot 4? They were ranked 20th in FIFA's February
10 rankings. That was ahead of Serbia, Poland and others. Since then
they beat Austria and drew with the Czech Republic. A bit puzzled by
this, unless some really good results from a few years back fall off
their record or something.

It seems weird to see Germany in pot B, it wasn't that long ago they were winning World and Confederation cups, but they have sucked lately, it is a shame that Wirtz is out injured , I think he could become a top player.

The teams from June's playoffs go to Pot 4. That was one of the contingencies I've mentioned.

I think Canada is by far the strongest of CONCACAF teams. If I want a easy group for Germany, I would vote

A bit harsh on Wales, I suppose, but on the other hand they have had the
luck of the draw so far, with two home single-game qualifiers. Their
FIFA ranking does seem a bit flattering to me. As are the USA and
Mexico's rankings on the form of the past 6 months or so.

Well we've gone through a World Cup in Russia, one that's been awarded *together* with Qatar, without so much as a fuss.

I'll also add, Russia has a large population, infrastructure, and history with the sport. Qatar has none of these. It is wrong on so many levels.

So Qatar could get a group as tough as Germany / Serbia / Cameroon.

Or they could get a group as soft (relatively) as USA / Tunisia / or the winner of the Wales / Scotland / Ukraine bracket. All of who are probably still better than Qatar but if they could chose which of the above two groups they'd want to land in we know which one they'd prefer.

Watching the pre draw now on TSN. Interesting that Canada's most recognized and marketable athlete is not a Sidney Crosby or Connor McDavid but Alphonso Davies, at least according to some group, I think it was ISM.
