I expected them to move on. I am good with that decision. BUT...

1. In division? to the Patriots?
2. Only a 3rd. In 2023? AND they had to give up a 2022 5th to get that?

So, I guess they are betting they will never see him two games a year due to injury history. And if they do, $X$ can shut him down.

I am also good with the idea of diminishing 2022 draft capital in favor of 2023. That will be the a better draft. Especially for QB. No doubt, this season is Tua's "No Excuses - Prove It" year. If he doesn't decisively earn the "Franchise QB" label, expect another QB in the 2023 draft. I like that strategy as well.

But , really... They couldn't get more? Or at least the same, somewhere else?

???

Seems bizarre as hell to me.

Outside of the salary cap situation, I don't think this was a good deal
for us.

I’m not hating on Parker, but all I really remember of his stay here was that he was never healthy. I know he had a (statistical) good year in 2019 or 2020?

Other than that I can’t remember a game that he dominated. I can’t remember him ever winning a game with a clutch catch. Like I said, I remember him mostly sitting on the bench or in the trainers room.

He was an average receiver for this team who was good at contested catches. When healthy. Which wasn’t often. Not a great route runner, not a speedster, made of glass. He is the Dennis Rodman of the NFL if he was able to play through injuries. He certainly wasn’t worth the 14th pick of the draft. Look no further than what they got for him. Basically a 5th round pick in 2022.

Agree on the cap influence on the trade. I'm seeing numbers of $25mm
for next year. will some be used this year on another upgrade? will
some be carried over to pay salaries of Wilkins and others? I can't
hate this trade till I se all the ramifications.

I think of Parker on the same level with Chris Chambers. Nice slightly above average players. Meh, I’m not losing sleep over this.

Yes, agreed. I just looked up stats and they are Eerily similar. Big difference is Parker has played in a pass happy league and was picked 14th overall while Chambers was a Second rounder, picked 52nd overall.

A little research shows that Chambers was traded to SD, after 6 years with the Fins, for a second round pick two years after making the Pro-Bowl to make room for Ted Ginn Jr. (and his entire family).

Parker was traded for a 3rd round pick in 2023 and threw in a fifth rounder this year.

Here’s their best years on the Phins.

Chambers: 2005
Games: 16
Receptions: 82
Yards: 1118
Avg. 13.6
TD: 11

Parker: 2019
Games: 16
Receptions: 72
Yards: 1202
Avg: 16.7
TD: 9
Chambers had Gus Frerotte at QB
Parker had Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB

Pretty even off the top of my head!

I really loved Chambers but after he took that terrible concussion, he
was never the same.

Parker was sometimes great when he was healthy, may he never have a
great game against us.

Chambers wasn't a superstar, but he did all right in MIA considering that he was here post-Marino when we had a new starter at QB every 1 1/2 years or so.
