In a couple of days time, we will know exactly how the 2nd div will end.. OK, OK, it will tell us absolutely nothing as far as who can mathematically still get promoted, but it will tell us who SHOULD get promoted.

1 FC Schalke 04 (A) 30 17 5 8 64:36 28 56
2 Werder Bremen (A) 30 15 9 6 54:39 15 54
3 FC St. Pauli 30 15 8 7 55:40 15 53
4 SV Darmstadt 98 30 15 6 9 59:43 16 51
5 1. FC Nürnberg 30 14 8 8 45:39 6 50
6 Hamburger SV 30 12 12 6 54:30 24 48

Schalke v Werder at 1:30
St Pauli v Darmstadt at 20:30
Somewhere in between that is the Bayern vs BVB match and that will tell us if Bayern's reign of terror is finally over or whether Dortmund are Pretenders or actually going to amount to a title threat in the future. Bayern can mathematically have the title won on Saturday, but the reality is they have already won the title, so if Dortmund cant beat them now, they will officially become the New Pretenders ( from what I read Haaland is going to Man City and this is going to sound weird, with him scoring 18 goals in 20 games, but I think he has been a disappointment this season and BVB should sell while he is still a hot commodity).

But back to real football. You are probably wondering what kind of record these teams have against each other. Well, in the second division they have a record of 1 draw, a 1-1 draw earlier this season. But you are thinking they must have played each other 100s of times in the first division and cups and what not. They have played each other a combined total of 118 times and they have each won 47 games with 24 tie games. Wow, you are saying, that is really close, like it just could not be any closer and you would be correct, but then what about goals scored in all those matches? This is where the clear advantage can be seen, Werder has scored a whopping 169 goals, while the Miners have a meagre 166, so yeah as close as you like and a 1-1 draw would suit everyone.

Meanwhile, Hamburg's best team or Darmstadt could be the real winner if that game does indeed end a draw. If either Darmstadt or St Pauli do get promoted it would be the third time for either team. SO, you are wondering what is their head to head record like? They have never played each other in the 1st div and surprisingly only 19 times in the 2nd div and it is advantage Darmstadt with 10 wins to St Pauli's 6th win. Darmstadt won the game back in November 4-0.

So there you have it, all those questions you have been asking yourself are all answered before the big Super Saturday Spectacular.

Make it 0-3 make it 0-4

This kinda sounds like a Barca game with the away fans noisier and more visible than the home support

Werder with a convincing 4-1 win and retake the top of the table, 3 games, left one vs Aue, they have to get enough points for direct promotion. So yeah, we are projecting Bremen as finishing 1st or 2nd and direct promotion.

HSV also won, so they may get in to the playoff spot. A Bremen-Schalke-HSV 1-2-3 would be what everyone predicted months ago and might just happen

After Super Saturday and Sunday, we really are no closer to final promotion status

1 Werder Bremen (A) 31 16 9 6 58:40 18 57
2 FC Schalke 04 (A) 31 17 5 9 65:40 25 56
3 SV Darmstadt 98 31 16 6 9 61:44 17 54
4 FC St. Pauli 31 15 8 8 56:42 14 53
5 Hamburger SV 31 13 12 6 58:32 26 51
6 FC Nürnberg 31 14 8 9 47:43 4 50
7 SC Paderborn 07 31 12 11 8 54:41 13 47
8 1. FC Heidenheim 31 13 7 11 38:42 -4 46

9 points to play for, realistically the top 6 are still in it. A lot or nothing can be decided next weekend.

At the other end Ingolstadt is relegated again, and Aue is as good as
gone. Dredsen will go to the relegation match.

In the third league, Magdeburg has won promotion. The second spot is
between Kaiserslautern and Braunschweig. Havelse relegated.

That's three storied teams. Two Bundesliga champions and a European
trophy winner. I always had a soft spot for Kaiserslautern, so I kind
of hope they make it back at least to BL2.

Havelse relegated.

I kinda dont understand the post from Mark about can someone be this year's Kaiserslautern, this year's Kaiserslautern means promotion to me. Unless it was reference to the team that got promoted and then won the 1st div that 1st season, but that would not be "this year's". You can watch live 3rd div Buli here in Kanada on Youtube.

Anyhow Fabulous Friday in the 2nd division and a Werder win coupled with a St Pauli loss almost assures Werder promotion, well play off for promotion, well almost if HSV does not win on " Spoiler Saturday". Of course if none of that happens, we will have to change Fabulous Friday in to some F word that means screwed or something, if we can find such a word. Could be another Super Saturday as well, with the right results, maybe not Super like getting promoted, but Special Saturday or so-so Saturday, of course if the results do not come out, would have to find and S word for something like crap .

I assume he was making reference to the "this year's Leicester" thread
that has been going on for a while. The title of that thread derived
from Leicester's very surprising run in 2016 - going from almost
relegated to champions. So who was going to accomplish a similar feat
and become "this year's leicester".

Since Mark likes to ignore the EPL, I assume he wanted to use an example
from another league, and thus was referring to Kaiserslautern's surprise
league win in 1998, the year after promotion. Was that a bigger
surprise than Leicester ? Some would say no, since the Bundesliga was
more hotly contested in those days, and since Lautern were cup winners
in 1996, and were pretty unfortunate to be relegated that year (36
points, - 6 goal difference -18 draws was their problem. With a
rational points system (2 for win, 1 for a draw) they would have been
avoided relegation). They also kept a strong nucleus of players and won
immediate promotion back up.

The reality is, would/will Bremen even be able to compete with teams like Union or Freiburg or Augsburg, maybe it is better if they stay in div 2. Who sez teams like HSV and Werder have to be in the 1st div, who even likes the 1st div anyway, with bayern and their evil reign of never ending terror!

Braunschweig is the original sugardaddy team. It's now looking very
difficult for Kaiserlautern, but they should get the relegation match.

> Anyhow Fabulous Friday in the 2nd division

Quite a Friday is was. Schalke with a late (90) winner in Sandhausen,
Pauli losing a win equally late against Nürnberg, and Werder turning a
2-0 lead into a 2-3 with a couple of own goals. That's HSV-like.

Saturday Darmstadt and HSV won big. Darmstadt second, HSV 4th (3
points behind).

Big game this round is Schalke - Pauli.

Eintracht Braunschweig is indeed the first German team to have a shirt sponsor. bonus points if you can name the sponsor. Extra bonus points if you can explain how they got away with it.

Really hard to say, since I wouldnt be surprised if Schalke and Darmstadt lost and Bremen return to first place, that is how unpredictably the 2nd div rolls.

I assume it was Jägermeister ? There was a point where they wanted to
incorporate Jägermesiter into the official team name, but I think the
DFB nixed that.

And Darmstadt lose to Fortuna, (who had nothing to play for) so now Werder once again can control their own destiny, just win on Super Sunday and then next week and they are promoted.

Yes it was Jagermeister and I seem to recall they claimed that the Jagermeister emblem was the team logo.

So it seems no team really wants to be promoted to the 1st div.

Schalke 0 - 2 St Pauli HT

If the Pauli goes on to win, Werder will be back in 1st place when/if they beat Aue tomorrow. They have to win it though, Aue are already relegated and have nothing to play for, so nothing can possibly go wrong.

Schalke turn it around in the 2nd half, a soft penalty in the first minute of the half started the comeback. St Paili also had two men sent off. Schalke are back in the 1st div next season. Werder should get the other automatic spot and HSV or Darmstadt should be in the play off.

Slow, painful game to watch. How can Bremen compete against the likes of Augsburg,Union or Freiburg when they can not even beat Aue.

0-0 ht

Nice little stadium in Aue, sort of cottage like surroundings

Gaining promotion in front of a full house, by turning 0-2 into 3-2 is
very rocking.

0-3 FT. Last two goals in added time.

Werder will be promoted if they can get a point in the final
round. And they need the point, as they're behind on GD. OTOH everyone
knows HSV will choke on the final day (but then there's Darmstadt).

I wonder if Hartmut was attending.

Kaiserslautern slipped up and Braunschweig is promoted.

Regionalliga:
South-West: Elversberg promoted unless they somehow lose a 19 goals GD
lead in the last round.
Bayern: Bayreuth 5 points up with 2 games to go.
West: RW Essen and Münster going into the final round even on
points. RWE 2 goals ahead on GD. Rocking.
North: VfB Oldenburg 6 points and 11 goals ahead of Weiche
Flensburg. One match left for Oldenburg, 2 for Weiche.
North-East: Dynamo Berlin 3 points and 12 goals ahead of Jena. One
match to go.

Last two winners will have to playoff for promotion.

They scored early in the 2nd half and coasted/hung on until the end. One point needed in the last match against the worst form team in the liga (1 win in the last 15 games or something like that), so what could possibly go wrong.

HSV seems to like it in div 2 and I dont know if they would beat the 3rd last place team in div 1.

Elversberg and former 2. Liga club FSV Frankfurt have come under some criticism because
they played a Gijón-like 1-1 draw that saw the former promoted and the latter saved.

Elversberg (near Saarbrücken) back in 3. Liga for the second time in their history (after 2013/14).
Twice they missed out in the promotion play-off. They are kind of a Hoffenheim lite, with the
main sponsor (a pharmaceutical company) being led by a former player.

> Bayern: Bayreuth 5 points up with 2 games to go.

Bayreuth last played in professional football in 1989/90 (2. Liga).
Eleven years ago in 2011/12, they were still in the sixth league.

> West: RW Essen and Münster going into the final round even on
> points. RWE 2 goals ahead on GD. Rocking.

Essen also way ahead on goals scored, so basically three goals ahead.

Preußen Münster had it in the bag until a scoreless draw in this second-to-last round.
RWE were leading through large parts of the season until a string of draws made it appear
as if they had thrown promotion away just like last year (against Dortmund II).

Essen play at home against Ahlen, Münster at home against Köln II.. None of their opponents
has anything to play for.

> North: VfB Oldenburg 6 points and 11 goals ahead of Weiche
> Flensburg. One match left for Oldenburg, 2 for Weiche.

Oldenburg last played in 2. Bundesliga in 1996/97, then, following a familiar pattern,
quickly fell through the ranks due to financial problems. Stabilized in the fifth league,
and ten years in Regionalliga have now been crowned with success.

> North-East: Dynamo Berlin 3 points and 12 goals ahead of Jena. One

A... problematic club. Most hated team in the former GDR (due to having been Mielke's
favoured Stasi team, and correspondent refereeing), extreme right-wing fanbase and problems
with hooliganism since the 90's.

But they're the only German club apart from Bayern to have won double-digit league titles, and
carry a star on their shirts.

> Last two winners will have to playoff for promotion.

Still, go Oldenburg!

Werner

Wait, what is this monstrosity? I thought HSV were down and out! No, they will easily clinch the playoff spot, and it's time that a 2.Bundesliga team wins promotion.

And it might not get easier for Bayern II next season.
Adeyemi from Salzburg to Dortmund for around 40m€, and Unterhaching will receive up to 8m€ from that
transfer. On the Regionalliga Bayern level, that's an absolute fortune.

It's a shame, because they actually played a versy good season. 85
points in 37 games, with 110-47 goals is very good. Compare that to
the 73 points in 34 games, that was enough for promotion 3 years ago.

But Bayruth has just been winning and winning, no matter what. In one
