That is pretty damn late, especially when you consider they will still be playing the ice hockey this year on Canada Day (July 1).
As I recall, we have not done it since covid and they no longer have the actual fantasy pool anymore-I mean the one where you pick actual players.

Leafs and a few teams won big last night. I have to assume Doc and all of Alberta are hockey mad with the Oilers and Flames in it. Not sure where the dividing line is that makes you either an Oiler or a Flamer? I think it is Red Deer.

Just for you non Canadians to get an idea of the enormity of the Iceberg. Alberta is a tiny little province, yet the Edmonton v Calgary local derby is between two teams 300km apart. The fiercest derby in all of Canada, I might add.

I looked for it last week and could find nothing except the bracket
ones, which I did enter (one NHL, one Sportsnet).
There is a regular season player draft type pool, and maybe you have to
be in that to be part of the playoff one - if one exists ?)

I have not watched any NHL ice hockey this season, I have not really watched ice hockey since Gretzky played, so I have no opinion on who are the good teams or players, none of the scores mean anything to me. But, we went from teams like the Toronto Mapleleafs winning 5-0(whaaa???) Monday to 5 hour games yesterday, a game so long that the keeper had to be pulled for dehydration in the 4th hour. In the end Pitsburgo won 4-3 vs New York. Sid Crosby still plays hockey, he is the only player I recognize. Calgary won a 1-0 game, that never happens, you never get a one goal game in ice hockey. Colorado must be the favourite, they won 7-2.

Since the season went on so long and the playoffs started so late, the teams are playing every second night, which means they are going to be tired soon, if not already. I dont know about squad depth and how much rotation teams do nowadays, but looks like the winner will be the fittest team or at least the largest squad. It is going to be weird watching the ice hockey in July.

Playoffs are pretty chaotic and unpredictable. I still think the
Lightning have a reasonable chance of getting three in a row, if
everyone stays healthy.

> Since the season went on so long and the playoffs started so late, the teams are playing every second night,

That has pretty much always been the case.

which means they are going to be tired soon, if not already.

4 lines of forwards. The only play about 11-20 minutes each per game.

I dont know about squad depth and how much rotation teams do nowadays,
but looks like the winner will be the fittest team or at least the
largest squad. It is going to be weird watching the ice hockey in July.

Two years ago we were watching in August.

Tampa Bay Florida won the last two Stanley Cups? That just seems weird.

I thought it was every two or three days, it seems it is strictly every second day now.

It used to be some players, mainly defenders played 30 minutes or more out of the 60 min games, but now with never ending OT and games every second day, unlike the regular season, not to mention it is the end of the season and warmer inside the rinks, it has to affect the players.

It used to be pretty strictly every second day , but you are right that
with adjustments to accommodate the TV schedule it has got away from
that sometimes in the more recent past. Particularly when the series
moves to the other city. Seems like the NHL really likes to have games
Friday/Sat/Sunday so does some spreading out.

Some top defenders can indeed put in 30 minutes or more in a 60 minute
game. Flames rotate their defenders so it never gets that high for the
top pairing (Hanafin and Anderson). You are right that with overtime it
can go on much longer, but most games don't reach OT, and of those that
do, they are often settled in the first 5 minutes.

but now with never ending OT and games every second day, unlike the

Yup, the playoffs that year were in two bubbles in Edmonton and the
alleged centre of the known universe (Toronto).

Ah yes, I remember that now.

Toronto has to be the most boring centre of the universe in the history of the universe and I have spent quite a lot of time in TO. It is more boring and plaid than even Ottawa in my opinion and the outskirts like Markham and Mississauga are even worse.

Could well be, another good thing killed off by COVID.

Entered the NHL bracket as well, at the last possible moment (between Games 1 and 2, now that's lenient gamemastering).
Let's compare results at the end.

It's really been a weird season. Huge difference between the best teams and the dross.
In the east, it was clear who would make the playoffs by Christmas. But on the plus side, now pretty much
all playoff pairings (except Avs vs Preds, and perhaps Oilers vs Kings - but it's Edmonton, they might still
find a way to screw up) look very competitive.

Ciao,

Beautiful ice hockey weather here, looking at highs around 30C this week, so just perfect for ice hockey. But yeah, I dont know about the reg season, but outside of Colorado, every series looks like it will go at least 6 if not 7 games. The NHL really seem to do a good job with parity, or maybe it is just the players are up for the cup.

Hot but dry, so quite nice for 33C, usually it can be very humid here.

But, we are not the centre of the universe, the centre of the universe is hosting an ice hockey match, the centre of the universe is looking to win a playoff series for the first time since Eddie Shack retired.

They are hosting an ice hockey match party, the actual game is in Tampa Bay.. I thought they were saying it was the hottest ticket in the country, but that will be game 7.

Come on, do they use WWEpl refs in the NHL and what is the deal with allowing Russians to play. Nhl has lost any credibility they once had.

I got six out of 8 right in the NHL version of the bracket (predict the
whole thing in one go - as opposed to the Sportsnet one where youn enter
predictions round by round. Everything else was the same except I went
with Rangers instead of Penguins in that one. I had a hunch on
Washington that was wrong - though they lost two OTs, and generally
acquitted themselves well.

It look like the Battle of Alberta is the series to watch, averaging around 11 goals per game/. For those who dont know what an Alberta is, it is the USA of Canada. Horrible place, multiple shootings everyday, everyone is married to their cousin and hot dogs are the national food.

Northern Albertans rejoice, Gas prices are at record highs, Oilers are in the semi finals and it is now legal to marry your sister.
