Example: Mammoths

Supposedly the ancestors to the Columbian
Mammoth arrived in the Americas from Asia,
walked to North America across a so called
"Land Bridge," roughly 1.5 million years ago.

Do you get the point?

The earth is in an ice age. This ice age is
characterized by a glacial/interglacial cycle
where lengthy periods of glacial coverings
are punctuated by much shorter warm periods
called "Interglacials."

We are presently inside of an interglacial. The
Holocene is an interglacial, one that is arguably
overdue to end...

So all the conditions that allowed for a mass
migration into the Americas at the end of the
last glacial period actually existed many times.

There were many glacial periods, so it was many
times when a glacial period ended, and it was
possible to walk to the Americas from Asia...

ANOTHER interesting fact is that the Wooly
Mammoth supposedly only arrived here, in North
America, on the order of 100,000 years ago.

Hmm.

But you've got to remember that the conditions
at the end of a glacial period pretty much match
those at the beginning. So they could have
crossed then. Or, because the dating is so iffy
maybe they came over at the start of the previous
interglacial!

See the point?

If Mammoths could walk here than so could humans.

Put another way: THEY DIDN'T EVEN NEED BOATS!

So we need something.

We need something to STOP humans from coming
over to North America.

What did they lack?

Had they not yet adapted to the cold? That would do
it.

No shoes?

Maybe they needed something else, like snow shoes?

The domestication of dogs?

Maybe they had all they needed but there just wasn't
enough of them yet? They never had to spread that far?

So what could have stopped humans from walking into
the Americas 100,000 years ago or 1.5 million years ago
or some point in between?

Cold weather tech. More than just shoes. This would include shelter as
well as keeping warm.

Food would mostly come from hunting. Drinking water is a more interesting

I think cold weather tech could definitely be the case, but it's too generic
an answer on it's own. We need specifics.

Many claim that Heidelberg man was building huts.

Fire, the controlled use there of, was supposed to have spread widely by
some 400,000 years ago. That would have been enough time for like six
glacial/interglacial transitions.

The cold waters used to be prime fishing, and many have identified what
would have been massive kelp forests which themselves would have
been abundant food, as well as hosting everything from fish to marine
mammals.

There's only a slim fraction of the marine life remaining today, as opposed
to pre Holocene...

They certainly had physically/genetically adapted sufficiently to the cold,
at least the Neanderthals had and probably Heidelberg man, and there
was food galore to keep them going. So that means we need some sort
of technological adaptations here... we need them missing in order to
stop the migrations.

Terra Amata "hut" housed only Piltdown Man.

Domeshields were used on land in and out of caves. They swiftly decomposed, macro-fossils would be unexpected, but micro-detritus analysis of hut sites for DNA, proteins, etc. would help reconstruct materials and forms.
