I think that's true. When my problems started, I thought I had an
unusual problems. After I started asking questions of friends and
customers, I soon discovered that almost everyone over age 65 has had
cataract surgery. It's quite common:

"A Brief Look at Cataract Statistics"
<https://www.eyeops.com/blog/a-brief-look-at-cataract-statistics>
"About half of Americans will have cataracts by the age of 75."
"There are more than 2 million cataract surgeries performed in the
United States each year."

I tried to think back in time when I starting having vision problems.
The first signs were in about 2000(?), when my eyeglass prescription
started showing signs increasing changes. Near the end, a
prescription which used to last about 10 years was only lasting about
3 months. The last attempt to produce a working eyeglass prescription
failed completely and was no better than the previous non-working
prescription. The problem was the changes initially were so slow that
I didn't notice them.

Ask me in a month or two what my out of pocket cost was for the 20%
not covered by Medicare.
