and while I can't be sure the fellow is right, this is the sort
of sentiment I generally agree with; the people running that
sub, basically, should have behaved like NASA - the old NASA
before the Challenger disaster.

When you're pushing the edge of what is possible, you have
to be really careful.

Of course, no doubt the problem was in this case was that
if they didn't do it on the cheap, it wouldn't have been done
at all. Which only becomes a _real_ problem when you fail
to reaize, under that circumstance, that the correct response
is not to attempt it at all.

Well, the way that SpaceX and others are doing space now is better
than the NASA way for what is being done now... building on the cheap
and letting things blow up rather than spending billions to get it
right from the start. That's a perfectly reasonably way of doing
engineering in many cases... but not so much when people's lives are
at stake!

The submersible? We can safely ignore that. Most people are smart enough to look at it and say "No way!"

The only problem was the cost to taxpayers, but that's really just a drop in the bucket.
