Take the case of two men who want to test the speed of a signal between
the earth and the moon.

The two men separate, having matched their watches.

One says to the other, I send the signal at noon sharp.

And you, when you receive it, you will note the time.

The second man will then note that, on his watch, it is twelve and one
second.

He will therefore say to himself: "So light travels at 300,000 km/s".

And this is how we are going to have the greatest scientific
misunderstanding in all of human history.

The two men simply forgot something.
