My Olympus E500 is going well but its batteries are not. Can I run a
stationary camera with a DC transformer?

It may be powerable from a DC transformer, uncertain what connection it uses
and the polarity is kind of important so that has to be discovered.

Many DSLRs have kluge battery pack substitutes available with leads to
external PSUs.

Not sure about your model.Try googling harder than I could be bothered
to ...

Alternatively you could risk stripping a dud battery pack, attaching
leads, and hooking up to an external supply - but not a project for the
novice.

even easier to buy a new battery.

Might find it difficult to get a suitable DC transformer as you need 7.4V ,
5, 6 & 9V are easy to find 6V might work, you might get away with a 9V and use 2 1N4001 type diodes in series
with the +ve lead but it;s tricky, and it also means your camera isn't excalty portable any more
as you'd need to be near a power socket.
The E500 is a little old now is it really worth the effort ?
I'd just buy a new battery if I wanted to use the camera for a few more years.

Agreed.

But he did say it was statically-mounted, presumably an old camera

Yes, Ive set it up on a tripod and with a timed-shutter gadget to take
shots every 10min of the coffee shop over the road, with a long-range

One shop isn't exactly a good representation of fashioin is it, it''s called a low sample rate or a piss poor sample.
Are you watching McDs, a kebab shop, betting shop, and if it;s up north it'll be blue jeans white T-shirt with a lonsdale of nike label and a can of stella in the back pocket. If it;s Essex it'll be designer jeans , WDK and a gucci or other branded top that's as fake as their tan.
