Isn't that wonderful. No coincidence then they ended up with one of the highest case and death rates in the world.

Some of us were busy designing electronics.

A bunch of the case rates were testing driven, and the death rates
were inflated by definition. Like motorcycle wrecks assigned to covid.

But it's over now, so you can go back to designing electronics.

Here's a complicated statistic: COVID contributing to a cancer death for which primary cause of death was cancer, and cancer contributing to a COVID death for which the primary cause of death was COVID.

More than 16,000 Americans died of combination cancer, COVID in 2020
https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2022/09/news-scan-sep-30-2022

Nature is just lulling people into a false sense of itsoverness, but it's winding for another one.

We're all going to die, and not likely from covid.

So do something fun and useful.

I guess we know one of the 42%.

If you aren't a US resident, you likely don't understand the social, economic
and political issues at play.

For many, covid was "an inconvenience": stores limiting their occupancy
meant you couldn't just "shop" when you found it covenient for YOUR schedule;
long lines (with 6 ft gaps!); limits on quantities of items you could purchase
that may have been in short supply; some (few!) services unavailable
(thankfully, our governor forbade nail salons and hairdressers from being
shuttered! Imagine the consequences of THAT! <rolls eyes>); etc.

For others, covid was a real challenge -- because their lives were largely
controlled by other issues (i.e., the need to pay rent and buy groceries
meant you HAD to work). I can't imagine what it would be like to wear a
mask for 8 hours, day after day. Or, what it would cost to replenish them
(as a "used" mask was essentially worthless).

It was amusing that folks who, pre-covid, would have their noses buried
in their phones ignoring others around them suddenly CRAVED personal
contact ("Why not JUST send a text??") -- I spent more time chatting
on the phone with "needy" friends than I'd ever done in decades before.

It was a (faux) badge of honor to NOT wear a mask -- and, many of
my older friends with serious health issues were uncomfortable
realizing that they would have to swallow their pride and "mask up"
(or, risk becoming a "statistic").

Doubly amusing to see young couples with a masked female and unmasked
(macho!) male. Honey, do you really think that mask is helping you
when "Bob" hasn't been wearing one?

The primary impact on *my* lifestyle (save for the added phone contacts)
was to cease my IN PERSON /pro bono/ activities as the community served
by those firms was already underprivileged and likely represent a
significant exposure, for me (a 4-8 hour stint would have put me in
the same sort of environment those 9-to-5'ers were stuck with... yet,
my time wasn't being compensated!)

And, of course, a good many "jabs" instead of the ONE annual flu shot.

42% tracks pretty nicely with the percentage of first marriages that end
in divorce

It was just unbelievable. Don't forget the shootings by un-maskers being told to wear a mask. And all the arrests of sociopaths, usually for trespassing or creating a disturbance, who refused to wear masks. Prisoners demanding early release, deliberately getting infected to do so. It's just endless all the ways so many demonstrated they're not fit to live in a civilized society. Then the instances of early vaccine fraud in places like Florida. The state got early access to distributions on the basis of providing them to underserved populations, but managed to get almost 100% into the arms of affluent residents. And the Feds are just now sentencing lots of people for misappropriating COVID relief giveaway funds. Apparently most of them were in desperate need of a very pricey new car or a second home. I'm sure there's much much more to be said about the unconscionables...

Speaking of prisoners, look at this piece of work:
: In 2020, following a COVID-19 outbreak at Port-Cartier Penitentiary, Magnotta's mom pleaded with authorities to free him, suggesting that her son’s detainment at the Quebec penitentiary is equivalent to a death sentence.

IIRC, there were similar "reactions" in Europe and other areas.

That has nothing to do with covid. The Entitled will always rationalize
(and reify) a means of getting their "due". You understand that you can
PAY people to wait in lines for you (of course, assumes you have disposable
income to expend on such an "expense" in lieu of your TIME).

Again, nothing to do with "covid". "Why do you rob banks?" "Cuz that's
where the money is!" Unscrupulous folks will always target pots of gold
in the hope that they can get away. And, if the offender is a corporation,
the consequences are just monetary -- we don't "lock up" corporations
for their crimes (perhaps we should suspend their business licenses for
a period of time equal to the sentence an INDIVIDUAL would encounter?
Of course, this would be a death sentence for most businesses...)

There are innumerable ways to game the system and little motivation for
the system to actively counter those exploits. "We need more money for
the XYZ program..."

IIRC, several high profile US "inmates" tried similar tactics.

Why don't they argue that being imprisoned makes them more susceptible
to fire, explosion, violence, toxic conditions, etc.? Um, isn't that the
point of loss of freedom? That you can't change your conditions to suit
your wants/needs??

It has everything to do with COVID. It can't be more on topic for COVID when you're talking about government collusion (state of Florida) to fraudulently gain access to vaccination against what those people believed to be a death sentence.

It has everything to do with COVID again because of the extraordinary circumstance of defrauding survival subsidization of failing business and employment due to COVID.
Usually corporations stimulate lots of supportive commerce and employ lots of people. You don't just suspend their business operations. The legal declaration of corporations being individuals is a theoretical artifice and is not to be taken literally.

Where are you from? Your politicians are all *saints*? And, your
citizenry all attend religious services DAILY?

Individuals could self-certify that they had "special conditions" that
merited their getting the vaccine ahead of the scheduled criteria.
Should they, instead, have had to have a doctor certify that? Do you
think there aren't doctors who WOULD certify that "dubiously"?

I have prescriptions for conditions that I don't presently have (and
hope not to get) simply as a precaution against needing them and not
being able to get them when needed. Surely, that's immoral if not
outright illegal... (just because I can afford to have an Rx filled
that I don't *need*)

You've obviously no experience with the fraud that plagues MOST government
programs, here.

Or, how easy it is to incorporate.

In the heat of a pandemic, do you think the gummit should be investigating
the pedigrees of corporations applying for "giveaway funds"? How efficiently
do you think such a review process would be given that scale? How patient
should the public (and "society" as an organism) be for those funds to
begin flowing? Maybe we should have held formal hearings for each petitioner
with counsel representing the applicant and the gummit engaged in an
adversarial role of proving / disproving the merit of EACH application.

Discovery and prosecution is always after-the-fact -- when time and response
isn't as precious.

Not big surprise that 42% of Americans would also want to exercise their
personal freedom to bang other people than their spouse, to "make life
feel normal"
