What scientific idea is ready for retirement? Steve Giddings, Professor, University of California, 2014: "Spacetime. Then LIGO fakers "detected" gravitational waves and Giddings found that retiring spacetime was not a good idea. Singing dithyrambs to LIGO's ripples in spacetime turned out to be an immeasurably better alternative:
