It was extradordinarily improbable that the virus originated from a
wet market withing walking distance of a lab doing gain-of-function
research on bat viruses.

Insisting that the institute could not be the source of covid is also
extraordinary.

Lab accidents with viruses aren't conspiracy theories. They happen.

According to EcoHealth Alliance "Mr. Huff was employed by the EcoHealth Alliance from 2014 to 2016." That sort of dates him to a full four years before the outbreak.

Then "Given that he never worked at or with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, his assertions along these lines cannot be trusted." IOW he could not possibly know what he's talking about

Not really. And the reason the investigators zoomed in on the animal market is because the first SARS-CoV occurring in 2003, again in China, originated in an animal market. Since 2003 a bunch of investigational studies have been done on everything. One interesting study was testing for SARS-CoV antibodies in Chinese animal traders in Guangdong Province. There they found a full 19% had been exposed to SARS virus, versus a background level of about 1% in the general population. That was SARS as in the first killer virus. That should give you a warm feeling that animals are the source of transmission. The people in China don't practice good hygiene when it comes to handling animals and preparing animals for food, they're all loaded with disease ( the people ). The animal host for SARS-CoV-2 they're looking for is themselves.

Nah; I live in a big city, and there's a LOT of activity that's within walking
distance of lots of other activity. That's what a city IS, a lot of enterprises
crowded together

That's a bit of cherry-picking; the 'lab accident' scenario isn't what the book
was pushing, but it also involves Wuhan like several other alternative theories... all of
which rely on the 'conspiracy' theme to reject evidence and testimony that contradicts 'em.

The timeline for the human virus coming out of the lab is wrong; it was introduced to labs
AFTER it was loose in the population. A similar bat virus was in the lab BEFORE the
human disease, but lab glassware doesn't cough in your face, it is extremely unlikely to
sequentially (1) mutate in vitro, (2) evade normal lab containment undetected, (3) infect personnel,
(4) mutate back in vitro to the harmless bat variant.

The two-word 'lab accident' suggestion doesn't have credibility. IMHO, it never did.

The market and wild-animal source hypothesis doesn't have any conflict against evidence
and testimony. There's some missing links (like the old anti-Darwin arguments
pushed into public discourse) but that's normal.

Science normally says "we need more research" about missing links. I'm with science.
