There is a clear association. They think this is a good thing in places like the Ring of Fire, because it will trigger earthquakes before they build up enough stored energy to become really powerful.

Unfortunately, it's still too early to tell. Turkey is playing politics as usual. Syria is blocking aids across border.

Did they want to build up Turkey as Russian gas hub? Perhaps that's the answer from above.
