My past Mazdas have been very reliable.

But recent events have changed my opinion of Mazda.

I am having to replace an intake manifold at a cost of $1971.

That manifold is made of plastic. In the past there were made of metal.

My car has 109K miles.

What has been your experience with Mazda or other cars?

Andy

Not only Mazda. Ford, GM, small engines, inboard marine
engines, all of them share failure of modern 'advanced
design' nonmetallic intake manifolds. Here are examples:

Manifolds are not the simple devices they once were.

Most cars have active (read - variable) manifolds these days to squeeze
the last ounce of performance out of the engine. Varying the intake
runner length according to engine speed is one way they do it and they
have various ways of achieving this. This site will explain;
