say it's strong evidence for Out of Asia, because we don't find it in our African
"Cousins."

I personally think that Dr Verhaegen is more accurate than you understands. That,
"Humans," or what we think are humans or "Close enough to modern" humans
begins with erectus.

His erectus times nicely with estimates on the modern brain, estimates for the lose
of the baculum, with fossil evidence...

One could argue that, though Homo was on the scene prior, it looks like something
was holding us back, and that may be a physical barrier to interbreeding with the
populations that broke from the aquatic ancestors too soon. The chromosome
fusion is a good candidate for that barrier.
