Thank you, Rich 😄

I'm not a photographer but do enjoy taking and sharing photographs. With
my new iPhone, I took photographs in a local park yesterday and then
uploaded a slide-show I'd made on my iMac to YouTube. There seems to be
considerable denigration of picture quality, as you can see here:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CHtqaF_TDc

Have you any suggestions as to how best to show a collection of
photographs to others. I sneaked a peek at some of yours. Although the
quality of your work is excellent the pictures are small relative the
size of my screen.

David

I've never had to upload images via zip that I can remember, I joined in 2006 maybe you joined earlier

Yes youtube do compress movies by quite a bit although difficult to know by how much.
I've noticed this when uploading my 4K videos of bands to utube the original files straight off the camera
look significantly better.

But I also noticed that I couldn't select a higher res. than 720
whereas on my 4K video you can select 1080p HD, or 1440p HD or 2160 4K.
(Via the lillte standard gear wheel icon)

So your slide show maybe needs exporting at a higher res. if that can be done.
Another option would be to use iMove and add single frames , the default time for each frame/picture is 4 seconds.

so if your pictures are of high enough quality which I assume they should be from your new iPhone,
then try imovie and export in 4K.

Making a a slide show or video and uploading to icloud, utube or dropbox etc

Even when I viewed the 'ducks' videos they were much better when downloaded from icloud than viewed via smugmug.

You could try a few different sites using the same video/slide show
and see which works best.

*Please will you explain* how 'ducks' videos got onto your iCloud.

I found them there - but they weren't put there by me!!!

I will be doing that, but in the meantime I made this by doing as you
had suggested. These images are photographs of paintings, some tainted
by time, but good enough to get the message across I think.

There is, indeed, such an option. I've been using it to view the recent

end of last month I think.
I think there might be a default stting where if you click on a linkn in someone elses iCloud it copies the file to your icloud account.

This is because I asked someone to view a movie I put on icloud and they said they couldn't because they didn;t have enough space on thier icloud .

So I told them how he could download it to his local Mac rather than icloud.
I'd check my icloud but my phone is at home so I can;'t access the security SMS I just sent myself. as I'm at work (lunchtime about to end)

I have not discovered that.

I think it was called something like copy to my icloud (or it could have been in the previous version called iDisk)

> > This is because I asked someone to view a movie I put on icloud and they said they couldn't because they didn;t have enough space on thier icloud .

I wanted to share a movie, a home made one with a friend who has a slow connection and pretty cluess with tech.
So I asked a friend to try my link to see if he could get it OK as he had a resonably fast connection.
He said he won't try it because his iCloud is almost full.
I had no idea what he meant by that , so I then asked someone else to try it.

Not me, I'm not teathered to my phone like most people , my students can harldy walk with looking up instrgram to explain
how to put one foot in front of the other, with a video of how to do it.

I have a free account with Flickr. Would you consider that sufficient
for most needs?

If you look at THIS image, can you view any of my other photographs?

I'd say it depends on you, no one else can decide.
If you regularly use it then I'd say no. I went to have a quick look and after a few photos I had to wait 5 seconds while an ad loaded.
I think you're also limited to 200 photos for some that might be enough.

I use dropbox for the odd image or file I want to make public or share with, but flicker for photos and youtube for videos

Thanks for your comments WhiskyDave. :-D

Do you EVER use the sharing facility of ICloud Drive?

Yes, the first was a dandylion sort of flower and then photos of painting then a blank screen and ad for 5 seconds or so and says sign in to flikr pro .
But I'm at work so don;t use such things for work .
There's also a little scroll bar I can use to faster navigate and choose any photo I want to look at.

Got these recently at work so I'm well prepared for halloween fun ;-)

Thank you. You are simply confirming that when one puts something 'up'
on-line that it's 'up for grabs' by anyone who chooses to look.

I really DO take your point, but there is another link to get there:-
https://www.flickr.com/photos/42312972@N04/albums/72177720298310668

If you scroll, there is a lot of information available.
This place was simply somewhere 'safe' away from my computer to store
the images. I'd actually forgotten that I'd put them here! :-)

On flickr (well I have the pro ) you can set permissions, public, private , friends/family or group permissions
if you want only members of a particular group of people you want to have access to those images.

So I would have put those images for 'safe storage' as private.

Such a private tag might be a navy party where things go on board a ship that'd you'd only want those on that ship to see.
You know what I mean the find the goldern rivet while wearing a gimp mask etc... ;-)
What goes on a ship stays on the ship.

Some of my photos are private mostly because they are higher resolution images of the public ones
or because they aren''t of any interest to most I have about 200 photos of my cat in various sleeping positions
which of course is of little interset to most and these would appear as my photostream .
