You are using Giggle Groups, which is a very poor Usenet interface.
Specifically, it doesn't have killfiles, so you can't do that from
Giggle Groups.

Download and install a proper Usenet reader/client. Since ISPs almost
never provide free NNTP Usenet access these days, you'll need a NNTP
server with an account. Perhaps use eternal-september.com, they're free.

Install and configure the Usenet client with the NNTP account you got.
Populate its killfile, and happy reading.

OK, thx vy much. I'll try to figure that all out and do as you suggest. I'll keep you informed, but
pls allow for my stumbling and bumbling to slow me down considerable.

Btw will I find a sci.math equivalent? You may not be able to answer that right off the bat so
pls don't spend any time researching it. I'll try to take on at least that much responsibility.

It's just "sci.math". It will have the same crazies you see on Google
Groups, but you'll be able to killfile them or anyone else if you wish.

There are other math groups but most of them are dead or full of spam.

Not that I know of, but Google seems to have been deliberately making
Google Groups worse and worse in the past, so maybe it once did.

My own theory is that instead of laying off poor employees, Google
reassigns them to a dungeon located deep below their headquarters and
their new task is to make Google Groups as bad as possible.

I agree, it seems as though they are trying to kill the NNTP protocol.
