The article doesn't say what the headline claims. According to the
article, a particular nerve bundle involved in language today is
also present in macaques and therefore has been, presumably, since
the last common ancestor of humans and macaques some 25 million
years ago.

You may notice that macaques don't speak.

By the same token, I could claim "Origins of Human Language Stretch
Back 350 Million Years" by pointing to the time when the vertebrate
tongue evolved.

yes, "Human" speech therefore appeared before Homo appeared !
