Stephanie Jamison (Professor, Department of Asian Languages &
Cultures, UCLA) lamented that "the parallels between the Intelligent
Design Issue and the Indo-Aryan Controversy are distressingly close"

Schlegel too placed the origin of IE near India. If both Schlegel and the
Hindutva lobby are mistaken, how different are their mistakes? Since
their inferences are similar, are they reasonable mistakes well justified
by the limited, and similar to an extent, corpus of literature they
studied? Alternative literature was unavailable to Schlegel and is ill
understood by the Hindutva lobby.

That is, is there something in Vedic, and perhaps Gathic, literature
that, in the absence of other literature, would tend to place IE
origins nearer to India than to (say) Greece which also had IE
literature Schlegel knew of? If not, why did Schlegel place PIE near
India rather than (say) near Greece?

people who claim to be believers say things like

" It's a bit roundabout to say Vedas are in Sanskrit. Instead, Vedas are Sanskrit. Vedas are not composed by any human. They are Apaurusheya (not of a man). Sanskrit itself came from the sounds of Shiva's dumroo. Panini simply expounded on its grammatical rules through sutras. He didn't invent Sanskrit."

BB Lal - a scholar and a kook unlike others like Talageri who are only kooks - seems somewhat content with

“The locus of the IE spread was therefore somewhere in the vicinity of ancient Bactria-Sogdiana.” by Johanna Nichols.

Hindutvas would prefer Allahabad or Patna as the center - but this is good enough if accepted by mainstream scholars.

But they say that (she must have been bullied by white boy defenders of the Pontic Steppe theory) NIchols has retracted these claims.
