Dear One and All

It is my sad duty to inform you of the recent passing away of Peter Rhys-Evans, the well-known Ear Nose & Throat surgeon who worked for many years at The Royal Marsden Hospital, in London.

Peter was scheduled to give a talk for us next week, on Sunday, 10th July, about a couple of his specialist subjects, the paranasal sinuses & external ear exostoces.

When we heard the terrible news, our first thought was to cancel the meeting, but on further reflection, and following the advice of several members of our group, we have decided instead to hold the meeting in Peter's honour.

I am sure he would want us to continue to focus our attention on those peculiar aspects of human anatomy that he worked so hard to publicise for many years. This, for Peter, started with a paper in the Journal of Laryngology & Otology back in 1992. His passion for waterside ideas about human evolution grew and it led him to organise a symposium on the subject in London in 2013 which caused quite a stir in the anthropological community at the time..

Thanks to Margaret Ijegbai, who helped organize the conference, we have a copy of a video of the talk he gave. It will be shown along with some comments he made on the subject at one of our earlier meetings.

There will be an opportunity for anyone to discuss these matters and also to share any memories they have about Peter.

The meeting will end with a promotional video he made to publicise his beautiful book "The Waterside Ape".
