1. is the Spanish word [ser] most likely to appear in a sentence such as the above? --- Some other common cases?

2. (in ordinary , simple conversations)

i get the feeling that the root forms [Be, Go, Have] in English
are at least 3 times as frequent than their French counterparts.

(in German, similar to English)

Please comment. (Thanks!) HH

Almost certainly due to the fact that the inflectional paradigm of the
English verb is much simpler. For example, present tense of "have"

French: ai, as, a, avons, avez, ont 6 different forms, none of them the
"root form"

English: has (3d person singular), have (all others) - 5/6 are "root form".

Another case: French has an inflected future: je serai, j'irai, j'aurai

English uses will/shall + "root form".

and "going to," which is also found in French.

German, too, uses compound verbs for futures.
