You've inadvertently stumbled upon something relevant.

They kind of explain the evolution here, where mechanical or
artificial jumpers were at first engineered to mimic nature,
biology, only to later move above & beyond that found in nature.

This is the progression of tools.

#1. Find it in nature.

#2. Replicate nature.

#3. Move beyond nature. Make things that don't exist in nature.

At first our ancestors just picked stuff up. That's it. Want to cut
some meat? Look for a sharp rock, one with an edge!

Later, our ancestors figured out that they didn't have to look for
the correct rock, one with the characteristics they sought. No,
they could find a rock WITHOUT those characteristics and
modify it into one with the characteristics: Tools were born!

No longer are we speaking of actions -- "he hammered the rock"
-- but nouns: "He used his hammer."

FINALLY, our ancestors went beyond nature. No longer were they
hunting for a good natural rock, no longer did they mimmic nature
by finding an imperfect rock and turning it into the kind of rock
they hoped to find, they could now create objects they only wished
were found in nature!
