Most people are stupid. They don't own intelligent thought processes.
Therefore they only know what the advertising tells them. (Ads work!)

*They way iOS updates _sucks_ compared to all modern operating systems.*

For example, Android updates more than half the OS forever (much like
Windows does) where forever means there is no planned EOL date. Not only are
over 25 (and growing) core Android modules on all Android phones updated
over Google Play (independently of the carrier & the OEM) and all of those
25 modules are handed to the AOSP community....

But also all the major OS apps which are forced onto every phone (all of
which have non-Google replacements of course) are updated the same way over
Google Play outside the carrier, also forever (i.e., no EOL date planned).

Even the Qualcomm firmware is updated over Google Play nowadays.

Given that, there is no way to compare the rather short update lifetime of
the monolithic iOS to the decentralized Android as _all_ of the monolitich
iOS dies after only a few years (while most of Android is updated forever).

This doesn't even take into account AOSP (https://source.android.com/)
as it isn't even difficult anymore to "de Google" Android with FOSS.

it's complete utter bullshit, and that's being kind.

so much of it is wrong, sometimes very, very wrong.

> 16 iOS Features that [many] Android Users Wish they Had
> 40 Android Features that [many] iOS Users Wish they Had

someone clearly has an agenda.

....

that's a rather conceited email address, and there's no point in
bothering since you'll ignore it.

> 16 iOS Features that Many Android Users Want that Only iPhone Users Get
> -----------------------------------------------------------------------
> 1. Integrated ecosystem

yep, something which android will never be able to offer.

> 2. Apple Watch

that's part of #1, integrated ecosystem.

right now, the apple watch does require an iphone, however, it will
eventually become independent. that means that not only will android
users be able to use an apple watch, but those without any smartphone
at all will too.

unfortunately, the technology isn't quite there yet.

> 3. OS Updates

yep, android after-sale support in a word, sucks.

most android phones get 2-3 years of support.

samsung recently announced four years of security updates, which is
better than before, but it's still well behind apple.

the iphone 5s, released in 2013, just had a security update about a
month ago. that's *eight* *years* of support.

the pixel 5 was released about the same time and has long been
abandoned.

> 4. Battery replacement

all phones have that. some require a screwdriver, and for something
that's rarely, if ever replaced, it's not a big deal.

> 5. Malware apps

what does that even mean?

android users want malware apps that iphone users have??

> 6. Facetime

ios 15 brings facetime to all platforms.

> 7. iMessage

yep. that is definitely something android users want.

> 8. Microphone and camera indicator

exists.

> 9. No bloatware

that varies per android device maker.

the google pixel doesn't have any bloatware.

samsung phones are well known for having a lot of bloatware.

> 10. Easier backup and restore

yep. that is definitely something android users want.

it also contradicts your 'what iphone users want' below.

> 11. Privacy

google's business model is in direct conflict with user privacy.

> 12. Support and Help from Apple Stores

that's up to the device maker, not a feature of android.

samsung has a few stores and will offer help to their customers.

good luck finding a blu phone store, or even someone to call/email.

> 13. Ease of Use
> 14. Faster processors
> 15. AirDrop
> 16. Family Sharing

those are true.

you're omitting a *lot* of other features, including:
- uwb
- magsafe
- shareplay
- dolby vision
- face id
- shortcuts
- continuity & handoff
- universal control
- private relay
- hide my email
- sign-in with apple
- app tracking transparency
- app privacy report
- keychain
- wallet
- animojis
- slofies
- center stage
- live photos
- live text
- heic/hevc
- homekit
- healthkit
- coreml
- look around
- quick setup
- bluetooth pair sync
- live listen
- instant hotspot
- assistive technologies
- matter
- thread
- spatial audio
- lidar sensor
- object capture
- voip integration
- share extensions
- differential privacy
- 3d touch (while it lasted)
- multi-device & wifi calling
- xdr display (currently ipad pro, but is coming to future iphones)
- swift playground (ipad only, but the results can run on iphones)
- low latency audio pipeline, allowing for apps that are impossible on
android
- apps generally appear first on ios, sometimes only on ios
- wifi 6 (most android phones don't have it yet)

that's 45 additional items to your 16, for a total of 61 items.

it's also an incomplete list. there's more.

> 40 Android Features that Many iPhone Users Want that Only (some) Android
> Users Get
>
> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
> ---
> 1. MST and Samsung Pay

first of all, that's a samsung-only feature, not part of android.

second, not only do iphone users not care about it, but android users
don't care either because apple pay and google pay are widely accepted
almost everywhere and it also requires a samsung phone, which not
everyone has.

> 2. Active styluses

samsung just discontinued the galaxy note because few people cared
about using a stylus on a phone.

the ipad has pencil support, where it makes sense due to its larger
size.

> 3. Headphone jacks

analog headphone jacks are obsolete, which is why many android device
makers are also removing it.

the future is wireless.

> 4. MicroSD Card Slots

definitely not, and many android phones do not have it anyway.

for android phones with a microsd card slot, it's quite often unused.

of those who do use the slot, there is usually one card permanently
installed. unfortunately, microsd is slower and less reliable than main
memory, thereby reducing overall performance of the phone and also
risking data loss (or at best, a hard crash). bad idea all around.

> 5. Apps

what does that even mean??

iphones have apps.

> 6. App stores

nope, other than epic who has a vested interest in an alternate store.

almost all android users get their apps from the play store, and for
good reasons.

> 7. Fingerprint sensors

uh, no.

iphones were the first to have a fingerprint sensor that is fast and
secure, and also no in a stupid location either.

iphones were also the first to have face id that is fast and secure,
which unlike what's on android, can't be spoofed with a photo.

iphone users have no interest in the in-screen fingerprint sensors some
android phones have because they're slow, unreliable and easily spoofed
with adhesive tape, reflective foil, and in the case of samsung, simply
by adding a screen protector. samsung did eventually fix that, but it's
quite obvious they never tested it before releasing it to the world.

maybe one day the technology will advance to where in-screen
fingerprint sensors are as good as a dedicated sensor, but that day is
definitely not here yet.

your #37 below, biometric authentication, is a duplicate. you can't
have both.

> 8. Reverse wireless charging

useless feature.

> 9. Google Assistant

iphone users can use google assistant any time they want.

what ios users really want is for siri to be better.

> 10. USB-C

nope. iphone users do *not* want usb-c.

the uproar over replacing lightning cables and accessories would be
incredibly huge for no benefit whatsoever.

> 11. USB 3.0

recent iphones are usb 3.0 compliant.

> 12. Separate audio volume controls for different functions

that exists.

> 13. Security

iphone security is much better than anything android has and ever will
have.

> 14. Split screen

you're clueless.

that exists on the larger iphones, starting with the 6+ in 2014.

it's not useful on the smaller ones.

> 15. Content transfer to a PC

you're very clueless.

that's trivial to do with any ios device and always has been.

above, you claimed that iphone users can easily backup/restore, now you
claim that iphone users wish they could do that. you can't have it both
ways.

in fact, it's so easy to transfer content that all the user needs to do
is connect the phone to a charger and it will happen entirely in the
background over wifi to a computer somewhere else in the home.

it does need to be manually initiated while on battery due to the risk
of running out of power in the middle of the process. the user can
decide if the battery has sufficient charge.

> 16. Choice of app launchers

there is no demand for that. even on android, most people use the
default launcher.

> 17. FM radio

hah, no. fm radio in a cellphone is a joke.

it requires wired headphones, making it not an option when using
bluetooth, the built in speakers or airplay, which is how most people
listen to the radio. it's also limited to stations very nearby because
the headphone antenna isn't that good. in fact, it's quite bad.

streaming audio (spotify, apple music, iheartradio etc.) are incredibly
popular, which can also stream just about any fm or am station anywhere
in the world, without any limitation on distance.

apple's cameras, displays and certainly their processors are among the
best in the industry.

Facts.

Integration is complicated.
It's clear by his ignorance that nospam only knows what Tim Cook fed him.

Fact is Android is far more integrated to non-Apple equip0ment than iOS is.
Yet fundamentally iOS is more integrated than Android to Apple equipment.

Let's take the _simplest_ ecosystem comparison between iOS & Android.
1. Plug iOS into native Windows - nothing works by way of two-way copy
2. Pug Android USB into native Windows - instant complete two-way copy.

You have to add hundreds upon hundreds of Apple bloatware (which they never
tested, as was proven on the Windows newsgroup) just to get a file to copy.

Even then, it's cripped in two-way copy to the visible iOS file system.

This is probably true.

This is also probably true.

Every time you say that you don't realize _only_ iOS uses the ancient
monolithic all-or-nothing method of updating devices with an OS.

Android has it broken down into dozens of components which are updated over
Google Play independently of the OEM and the carrier. Forever (ie, no EOL).

This you don't know, nospam, because you only know what Tim Cook fed you.

> most android phones get 2-3 years of support.

For what matters, most Android phones have support for as long as Google
Play exists (e.g., more than half of Android is updated via Google Play).

By way of contrast, EVERYTHING dies by way of support for iOS devices.
It's just dead.

> samsung recently announced four years of security updates, which is
> better than before, but it's still well behind apple.

While nospam doesn't realize an operating system is more than just security
updates, the fact is more than half of Android is updated forever over GP.

Even the Qualcomm firmware updates are now being provided over Google Play.

> the iphone 5s, released in 2013, just had a security update about a

And after that short period of time those iPhone 5s updates summarily die.
Dead.

The iPhone updates nospam desperately needs..... they just die. Dead.

Meanwhile, Google Play updates Android phones from the beginning of time.
And this doesn't even count the thriving AOSP which Google supports.

> the pixel 5 was released about the same time and has long been

This nospam is so ignorant, and yet so confident, that he claims that the
pixel 5 can't get many Android operating system modules over Google Play.

>

While there are still Android phones where the battery is a pop out pop in
one minute job, most nowadays are built in but what matters is battery life
on Android phones far exceeds that of iPhones in independent tests.

Apple can't even get on the short list in terms of battery life today.
(Same with cameras.)

I was confused also but I know what Steve is implying which is just wrong.
There is malware that Apple & Google allow on their apps stores.
Every month it's published. Both have malware.

Android doesn't have any more (or less) malware than does iOS.
The difference is Android users can sideload (which opens the gates).

But that's up to the user as Android sideloading is disabled, by default.

>
>> 6. Facetime

Sort of.
1... you need a web browser on Android to use Facetime
2... an Apple device has to set up the Facetime call
3... an Apple account has to approve any non-Apple user

>

I'm happy with PulseSMS which is, IMHO, the best SMS/MMS app out there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.klinker.messenger

It has things iMessage doesn't have but most people on iOS seem to love
iMessage (I use it myself, but only because it's the default on iOS).

True. For once nospam said something that is a fact.
Android has _long_ had mic & camera use indicators (third party).

Android 12 has them native.

>
>> 9. No bloatware

While that's a true statement from nospam, the advantage of Android over iOS
is that the bloatware can be removed, disabled, or replaced as the default.

For example, you can't remove Chrome or Safari, but you can set non-google
Chrome (or whatever browser you like) to be the default on Android.

> the google pixel doesn't have any bloatware.

Motorola is also very low on the bloatware.

Bear in mind iOS _requires_ hundreds upon hundreds of megabytes of bloatware
to do almost all the interoperability claimed for Windows so Steve can't
have it both ways.

The fact is iOS isn't interoperable with Windows w/o iTunes bloatware.
> samsung phones are well known for having a lot of bloatware.

I deleted or disabled almost all the bloatware that came with mine.

I think that it's not meaningful to compare bloatware between iOS and
Android because Apple limits what you can do by way of default replacements,
and Apple virtually requires iTunes bloatware on Windows.

On Android, sure, many come with bloatware but you can at least set the
defaults to better apps, and in many cases you can delete or disable it.

>
>> 10. Easier backup and restore
>
> yep. that is definitely something android users want.

There's a recent thread from "The Real Bev" on a similar topic and EVERYONE
on Android who posted said backup & restore is no longer a bother.

On Android, Google made it (too) easy to backup & restore.
Just like Apple did.

Therefore, this distinction no longer exists.

> it also contradicts your 'what iphone users want' below.

The main thing iPhones can't do are they don't have hardware Android has.
And iOS is limited by Apple as to what apps can do from the app store.

Even when Google limits what apps can do on the app store, there is always
the sideloading (which most powerful apps allow via their web site).

The apps are created by developers based on demand.
Both iOS and Android users have essentially the same needs.

The only difference is Apple vastly restricts what the apps can do.
So there will _always_ be less functionality on iOS, than on Android.

>
>> 11. Privacy
>
> google's business model is in direct conflict with user privacy.

Apple has been caught violating user privacy as much as Google has.
Plus, you can easily de-google an Android phone (with or w/o rooting).
You can't as easily de-Apple iOS due to the lack of FOSS projects.

Let's take the simplest privacy example possible, shall we?

Without jailbreaking, an iPhone is essentially worthless without an account.
Without rooting, an Android phone does _everything_ even w/o an account.

You can't have _any_ privacy when everything you do is tied to your account.

>
>> 12. Support and Help from Apple Stores
>
> that's up to the device maker, not a feature of android.

I find Apple owners have three major tendencies, one of which is fear.
1... They are paranoid that their device will break
2... They are paranoid that their device will be stolen
3... They are paranoid that their device will get malware

> samsung has a few stores and will offer help to their customers.

The warranty support on an Android phone is on par with a laptop.

> good luck finding a blu phone store, or even someone to call/email.

The support for Android is no better/worse than all consumer electronics.

>
>> 13. Ease of Use

How "easy" is it when every day you can do things on Android that are
impossible on iOS?

It's only "easier" on iOS because people give up trying to do things.

>> 14. Faster processors

The system is what matters .... not the clock speed.

What good is a fast processor when it's paired with ridiculously anemic RAM?
And with a secure enclave which is so badly designed it's unfixably flawed.

What good is a CPU which requires Apple to throttle the phone after a year?
What good is a fast processor when Apple can't even figure out how to
integrate the communications modem.

When people say "faster processors" they don't look at the complete picture.
All they see is CPU clock speed.

nonsense.

you don't understand what most of them even *are*.

two currently exist on android, but only partially, with a third
expected in the future.

android does have assistive technologies, but they're nowhere near as
good as what apple offers.

for example, the apple watch can be controlled *without* touching it,
for users who have difficulties tapping and swiping.

the video in the link below is amazing. it looks faked, but it isn't:
ntrols-to-boost-accessibility-8430>
³Apple Watch can detect subtle differences in muscle movement
and tendon activity, which lets users navigate a cursor on the
display through a series of hand gestures, like a pinch or a clench,²
said an Apple blog on the new features.

some android phones have wifi 6, but most do not, at least not yet.

google has said they're going to offer app tracking transparency (only
because apple did), but that's in a future version of android and it
won't be as thorough as apple because offering it will adversely affect
google's profit, since they are an ad company.

what is expected to happen is that google will limit third party
tracking while increasing their own tracking, which they can then sell
to third parties.

Notice how Arleene is so intellectually weak he can't address the point
of my reply (that many of us consider wireless to be the present rather
than the future), and is instead hopelessly drawn to mud slinging, while
projecting by calling others here "childish". It would be comical if it
wasn't so pathetically sad.

I speak facts - and then I assess those facts (assessments are opinions).
His statement above supports my opinion that nospam lacks formal education.

Only nospam would equate the iPhone's historically ridiculously comic
anemic lack of system RAM with its lack of expansion card flexibility.

They have _nothing_ to do with each other.
They're both bad - and they're both comically missing on iPhones.

But they have nothing to do with each other (despite nospam's claims).

The fact is:
*iPhones _suck_ on system RAM* (compared to similar priced Android phones).
*iPhones _suck_ on hardware expansion slots* (compared to most Androids).

Two sucky things about an iPhone that nospam can't possibly comprehend.

> you don't understand what most of them even *are*.

There is nothing on iOS that you have ever listed that isn't already on
Android (e.g., you think Android can't do shortcuts? Of all things).

> google has said they're going to offer app tracking transparency (only
> because apple did), but that's in a future version of android

There is no privacy possible on a phone that you have to have an account on
with the mother ship just to make the phone do what a phone needs to do.

An unjailbroken iPhone is almost useless w/o an account on the mother ship.
An unrooted Android phone is just as functional without a Google account.

WTF?
*How foolishly _stupid_ can these apologists be when making Apple excuses?
They can't stand that iPhones suck when compared to Android on system RAM.

First nospam equates the ridiculously anemic RAM on iPhones with sdcards (of
all things) and then Jolly Roger adds his +1 to nospam's ludicrous claims.

FACT: Only an idiot would equate system RAM with expansion slots.

Who is that stupid as nospam and Jolly Roger always easily prove to be?

The few adults on this newsgroup will note the facts...
1... Steve posted information (much of which was outdated & wrong).
2... Then nospam refuted much of the information that Steve posted.
3... So did I (where I stuck to the technical details as did nospam).

*That's how _adult_ conversations are supposed to happen on this ng.*

Then look at _everything_ from Jolly Roger & Joerg Lorenz.
*Their only goal is to drop the newsgroup down to their childish level.*

Do I need to point out that Jolly Roger is trying to bring this group down
to his kindergarten childish level of technical comprehension of the basics?

He and nospam don't even know the difference between system RAM and a
hardware expansion slot for heavens sake (and yet they're not even close!).

*Who on earth is _that_ technically ignorant but the child like apologists?*

No. I compiled this list over many years. It's very helpful when people
ask me for advice on which OS to go with. Rather than explaining to them
the pros and cons of each OS, I point them to this document then let
them decide.

I'm trying to bring an adult level of technical conversation into this ng.
It's clear Joerg & Jolly want to bring this newsgroup to their childish level
but what about the technical list nospam cut and pasted which supposedly is
functionality that iPhones can do that supposedly Android can't?

Which of the following that nospam merely copied from some iPhone 12
advertisement is really something that not only Android doesn't have
but it's something Android hasn't always had since almost the beginning of time?

Ignoring that the list is replete with marketing gimmicks and trademark
names is there _anything_ *FUNCTIONAL* in the list below that you use
every day that you find useful and that Android doesn't already do?

- uwb
- magsafe
- shareplay
- dolby vision
- face id
- shortcuts
- continuity & handoff
- universal control
- private relay
- hide my email
- sign-in with apple
- app tracking transparency
- app privacy report
- keychain
- wallet
- animojis
- slofies
- center stage
- live photos
- live text
- heic/hevc
- homekit
- healthkit
- coreml
- look around
- quick setup
- bluetooth pair sync
- live listen
- instant hotspot
- assistive technologies
- matter
- thread
- spatial audio
- lidar sensor
- object capture
- voip integration
- share extensions
- differential privacy
- 3d touch (while it lasted)
- multi-device & wifi calling
- xdr display (currently ipad pro, but is coming to future iphones)
- swift playground (ipad only, but the results can run on iphones)
- low latency audio pipeline, allowing for apps that are impossible on android
- apps generally appear first on ios, sometimes only on ios
- wifi 6 (most android phones don't have it yet)

Which _one_ do you claim isn't on Android that we can then look at deeper?

It's commendable you made a list which is a lot of effort in and of itself.
The list contains useful information but it also needs updating (badly).

You should also probably break it down into HARDWARE (e.g., headphone jacks,
batteries, expansion slots, system RAM, etc.) and SOFTWARE (all the rest).

In addition, a _lot_ of what you listed is straight out of an Apple
marketing brochure so it needs vetting by someone who knows Android phones.

It's missing the fundamental reason iPhones will always pale in
functionality to Android which is the market gives people what they want
but Apple restricts what the market can give them (HW & SW).

Android isn't one manufacturer so the market can still provide what we want
even when Google doesn't want them to have it (e.g., NewPipe replaces
everything you could possibly want from a YouTube subscription, for free).

For this reason and this reason alone, the iPhone will always pale in
comparison to Android in hardware & application functionality.
--
Personally, I've never seen _any_ functionality listed for an iPhone that
Android doesn't already have and which Android almost always had long ago.

no you didn't. it's relatively recent, roughly when you appeared in the
iphone & android newsgroups.

it's not helpful at all since it's mostly wrong.

of course you do, because you aren't interested in hearing about the
errors, let alone fixing them.

nope. an android phone without a google account will be unable to
download apps from the play store, which severely cripples the phone to
only what's available on f-droid and other sources, which is a *lot*
less than what's on the play store.
