What's pleasant is that on this newsgroup there are some adults, which is

To help give you more data, I went to the _other_ side of the house, where
I'm on top of a high mountain, so the towers are completely different there.

Here are the 5G speeds I just obtained for you facing a different direction:

Notice while my T-Mobile ad hoc 5G download speed facing in that direction
is 255Mbps, my upload dropped precipitously to 6.97Mbps, and the ping
latency remained almost as it was before at 29ms (with Jitter of 13ms).

Essentially they put most of us on what they call the "magenta plan", which,
after April 18th, 2021, means we get the following in terms of data caps:
1. Free unlimited high speed data (which "can be" "deprioritized" to lower
speeds on "congested" towers (after 50GB/month/line) when in the USA).

2. If we are in Canada or Mexico it's limited to 5GB (unlimited in Europe).

3. The free hotspot/tethering is lumped together at 5GB/month/line
for high-speed (where it can be "deprioritized" to 2G after that).

In summary, please understand that I am one of the few adults here who
attempted to _answer_ your questions. Notice the bulk of the posts to this
newsgroup are worthless childish kindergarten cesspool attempts by the
apologists (because they _hate_ what is fact so they hate me).

I speak facts which they have _never_ (in decades!) ever shown to be wrong.
Please _never_ forget that as I doublecheck my facts before I post them.

BTW, almost everyone on T-Mobile can get a free 5G phone in the USA today.
So 5G isn't as uncommon in the USA as those on Verizon would love it to be.
Besides, local 5G coverage iss pretty good if you ask me (see proof below).

It was _my_ mistake to include the uk broadband (I thought it was mobile,
but I only belatedly realized it was the uk broadband & not mobile ng).

So this is my _last_ post in this thread that will have the broadband folks!

As nospam said, we want to take a survey of mobile speeds in the UK & in the
USA, so that we can all learn & compare, & better yet, have an idea of
what's coming to your area, whether you live in the boonies (like I do) or
in the UK or in a city (where your speeds should be far better'n mine).

Most people who responded were, predictably, simply posting their childish
cesspool comments, almost _none_ of which addressed the original question.

At least The Real Bev acted like an adult by _trying_ to answer the question
(the rest simply proved that their brains are of a kindergarten cesspool).

Here, nospam is correct that we're not looking for broadband speeds, but for
cellular data speeds, specifically on 5G speeds now that everyone in the USA
on T-Mobile has access to a free 5G phone without any limitations (T-Mobile
doesn't do contracts, as far as I know, but if you leave them before 24
months after you get the free phone, you have to pay them $11.75/month for
however months were left on that 2 years - which isn't any big deal as you'd
be just paying whatever is left on the phone they were giving you for free).

To the point that this thread is asking about cellular speeds, when I ran my
4G/5G speed tests yesterday and today, I made sure I turned _off_ all the
T-Mobile microtowers I have inside my house, in addition to turning off the
Wi-Fi on my phone so that I tested only data.

Where I live they don't want any more people so they legally zone it as you
can only put a single house on 79 acres, where lots _must_ be 40 acres now.

My point is we're _far_ out in the boonies of the Santa Cruz mountains, such
that we're nowhere near a highway, a town, or even power poles that have
cable strung on them. We don't have water. We don't have sewer. We don't
have gas. All we have coming to us by way of city utilities is electricity
and telephone. Our Internet is always coming to us over the air.

My WISP Internet, for example, comes from a mountain which is something like
20 miles away by roads (maybe only 3 or 4 miles as Wi-Fi flies though).

So we're all rather good at setting up Wi-Fi antennas (I have a dozen in and
around my home, the barn, the pool, the stables, the paddock, etc.).

My house is so big and so far away from T-Mobile cellular towers that they
provided me gratis _two_ different mechanisms for cellular (years ago, prior
to 5G of course, maybe even prior to 4G).

I have a two-piece cellular repeater where the receiver goes in an upstairs
window & the re-transmitter goes somewhere deep in the bowels of the house.

Plus I have a femtocell (aka microcell) connected to my router which is in
another location of the house but I made sure both of these were turned off.

With _nothing_ but cellular data available to me deep in the boonies on top
of a mountain in the Santa Cruz Mountains, on the "slow" side of the house I
obtained 5G speeds yesterday of about 180Mbps and on the "fast" side of the
house (which faces completely different towers) I obtained 255Mbps 5G
speeds.

40Mbps is what I was getting back in Nexus 5 days which was my first 4G
phone, that was only on cities (particularly Nottingham, Leicester,
Sheffield for me at the time) it wouldn't surprise me as the number of
4G users has increased if the usable bandwidth has actually gone down
from that.

Not felt tempted by 5G just yet, perhaps I'll upgrade to the Pixel 5A?

there's very little need to upgrade *just* for 5g. it's the other
features that might be interesting, and the pixel 6 is rumoured to be
coming soon, although the camera bar is a bit ugly (if that turns out
to be true).

Yes, the camera hump is rather off-putting, my pixel3 will reach EOL
around the time of the pixel6.

The Pixel5a will be essentially a plastic Pixel6 (perhaps with a
step-down on a few items such as camera, but a step-up in terms of
keeping rear fingerprint sensor and headphone jack?)
