She was the author of the first novel written in a regional variety of
English:
Castle Rackrent: An Hibernian Tale Taken from the Facts and and from the
Manners of the Irish Squires before the Year 1782. (published 1800)

Edgeworth was born in England, but spent most of her life in Ireland,
helping to manage her father's estate.

One of the first books I ever read in english was a combo Castle Rackrent +
The Absentee. I liked it a lot, but must admit I don’t recall the regional
variety thing.

She was a cousin, if I read Wikipedia correctly, of Francis Ysidro
Edgeworth, one of the most distinguished contributors to the early
theory of statistics.

I read her as a teenager (in Ireland), and similarly I don’t recall that aspect
of it. I have found previously that I may not notice if a regional accent (in
speech) is close to my own, something similar may be at the root of it for me,
but presumably not for you!
