Bonnie, everything posted was intended to be helpful and based on the posters' experience. I have played live for 50 years and found truth in every post. The most and least helpful advice is 'find someone who knows what they are doing and watch them and listen to them.

My response, which you included in your post, was after the OP had
indicated by their responses that they hadn't a got clue what we were
going on about, so I suggested they engage a professional to allow them
to get supervised hands on experience. In this field it is the quickest
and best way to learn.

What sometimes happens here is that the posters have been doing what
they do for so long, they have forgotten the difficulties they had when
they were beginners, while the beginners sometimes don't know which way
round to mount or hold a microphone.

Although I usually advise against it, "Monkey see, monkey do" gets you started. When you gain some experience, it will be because you've learned how to think about the sound matters at hand. Often what others do in the exact same situation can be improved upon with deeper understing of the realm.

If you don't know. You don't know.
If you're inexperienced to the degree that you don't really know what the tools do and how they work, you're at an extreme disadvantage. If you know how sound and audio work, in the air and over wires, you can possibly make something sound OK, even if the gear is not state of the art. I am reminded of Rudy Van Gelder. People were very appreciative of his recording techniques. Some thought them almost mystical. It seemed to me that he had a great understanding of the nulls of directional mic patterns and could place musicians and mics in excellent places to get great results.

A lot has changed with in-ear devices. It took a while for me to even find ones that actually fit properly. Without a good seal, the bass response just isn't there, regardless of what mixer. I finally found good tips for my hard wired in-ears and then, finally, good tips for my Apple AirPods.
