In that RAS serves as an obituary column for many of our friends, I was remiss in failing to publish the passing of Bill Clarke at the end of January. Bill was 92 and passed asleep in his easy chair in his pilot lounge with his wife Bobbie at his side. AKA Uncle Billy and Whiskey Papa, Dr. William Parker Clarke wrote our glider club newsletter The Thermaliar, which he mailed to friends across the country. More recently he kept up a flow of emails. He was a power pilot and a sailplane racer and recipient of the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award. He was my friend and mentor and I’m dedicating my win in the Grand Prix here at the Seniors to his memory. RF

Very fortunate to have had wonderful people to make an impact on you and your club. It certainly has been a tough year with the loss of many of our wonderful friends within the soaring community. RIP Bill Clarke. Old Bob, The Purist
