Rich, looks like your fun Grand Prix is a bit wet, no flights posted today, and probably will have very few the rest of the week because of the WX. Put your jacket and long undies on for Sat morning you could see a cold mid 30's. Rich, we, are planning our trip to Clermont for next week, There will be three of us driving up Hwy 27, along the way we will be looking for gliders from SLGP. I am bringing a few prizes to be handed out at the conclusion of each day, along with that beautiful shirt made especially for you, we certainly expect a nice picture of you wearing the shirt. The motorglider trophy will go to the motorglider guy or gal that finishes last for the Seniors contest, AKA, as the 27 Derby. The other trophy will go to the Purist that has the best finish for the Derby, both are very nice prizes and should make most everyone very happy. There is now way that these rewards should be kept secret, So let me take this moment to explain the prizes.
The prize for the best performance by a purist, that means non assisted glider, either sustainer of self launch, that prize will be a very nice bottle of high quality rum along with cokes and a few limes, that is just in case the winner would like to give the others a taste of pure victory.

Steve, if the weather is good I do plan on flying and giving the boys at the Derby something to shoot for. I really don't like the keyboard, rather be flying the old Pawnee and getting gliders into the air. The WX has not been very flying friendly these days, kind of enjoyed the time off and I was able to get caught up with the spraying of the mango grove. You know, being the only tow pilot certainly has disadvantages, one of which not being able to fly my glider, which I do enjoy very much, I hope you have enjoyed this activity for as long as I have. You should not get too excited about the bantering between Rich and myself, we both throw a few darts at each other and laugh, he is a very worthy opponent and promotes the sport vey well. I'm just now beginning to see blue sky overhead, but the fresh 6 inches
of snow has kinda put the dampers on my soaring enthusiasm.

Dan, right when I thought that there was a new tow pilot on the horizon, actually two, they both got their dream jobs of flying for a living. I look forward to living long enough to see these two wonderful guys accomplish their dream. Now I have a couple of new tow pilots in the making and I plan to start flying my gliders once again, which could have been this week had the weather looked better. Now the weather was bad for the Grand Prix and the weather for the 27 Derby does not look much better, hopefully they will be able to get a couple of good days posted.
What does look encouraging is the activity planned for the last two weeks in March and possibly into April. Yes, The Soaring Safari will once again kick off in style as several pilots will be coming from around the country to enjoy the flying in South Florida and the Treasure Coast. There should be some great soaring during this timeframe, from all indications spring is a bit behind this year, so we look to have better weather during the Safari. If there any snowbirds or out of town glider pilots that would like to join in on a great soaring area and good times please feel free to come on down, the door is always open. Old Bob, The Purist

Rich, it was great visiting the Seminole group to enjoy a few hours of seeing a few old friends and all the beautiful gliders on the grid. The line crew was very professional as always and those tow pilots were very busy towing all those motorgliders, we left those guys a cooler full of beer for the end of the day. Eileen also enjoyed the festivities and commented on the drive back home on how well organized the event was run. Please take time to wear that beautiful monogrammed shirt and if possible hopefully someone will snap a picture of you flying your motorglider with that, "PURIST", shirt.. Too bad you are not in the running for the, PURIST", bottle of rum, someone will certainly have the joy of enjoying the rewards from being a purist.
