Has anyone tried to use the Air Avionic ACD-57 with Trig TT 22 SW license to configure and control the Trig TT22 transponder with a Trig TN72 Global Positioning Unit connected (and not using a Trig TC20 controlling unit)?

If so, were you able to configure it to operate SIL 3 SDA2, Level C to meet FAA 91.227 transponder requirements for flying above class B and in Class C airspace with an experimental sailplane?

Marc at Air Avionics indicated all parameters for the TT22 and TN72 can be configured with ACD-57 just as the TC20. I wanted to see if anyone as done it and how well it worked out.

Thank you,
Kevin

I have sold many ADC 57 to control the TT22/TN72 units and to control the TY91 units. The bonus is you save space and get a TSO altimeter also. I also recommend an airspeed switch.

Kevin,

I have the ACD connected to my TT22/TN72 setup and was able to configure everything within the ACD menus. Glider shows up on flightradar24 with the correct registration. As well as the Trig SW license, you also need a harness from Air Avioincs to connect them as the ACD uses RS485 and the Trig uses RS232 ( I think). The harness comes with a circuit board to do the translation so they communicate. As I recall the harness came with the ACD end connected to the DB connector + circuit board and the Trig end without the DB.

Thank you Richard and Dave for the confirmation and sharing your experience - much appreciated! This will help optimize the panel. I prefer the interface, not just for the transponder, but also for the radio. The radio seems pretty straight forward. Thanks again.

So How much are we talking about with radio/Transponder/Alt all hooked up?

Approximate prices:
License to control TT22 about $150, radio about the same
Cable to connect to TT22 about $200 and I assume cable to connect to TY91 would be about the same, I made my own to connect to a KRT2.
ACD itself with Altimeter license about $1000.

If you don't already have a TT22 or TY91, you can buy the remote version of the 22 and save about $500 not buying the TC20 control head and save the same $500 buying the remote 91 without control head. So basically those two savings buy you the ACD with altimeter.
