Gordon Boettger bought one. I believe the other is still for sale. As far as I know, (but I don't have all of the information about what the customer has done with them) the highest altitude under power is somewhere around 19,000 msl. Before we delivered the first one to the customer, Bob took off from Moriarty (6,200 msl) and climbed to 17,500 msl in 17.9 minutes solo, and 21.1 minutes with two pilots on board. Density Altitude that day was around 8,000 ft. I do know that on at least one occasion, the engine was extended and started in flight at over 19,000 ft.

Not the Arcus J, but the engine manufacturer PBS in the Czech Republic mounted the same engine (the TJ-100) to a Blanik L-23 as a test article. The "Flying Laboratory" was used to test engine performance from takeoff to various altitudes and speeds. In 2008, it was towed to an unspecified altitude by another aircraft, released and climbed under its own power to 9,700 meters. (31,784 ft.) Apparently, Airbus is shooting for 33,000 ft. with the Arcus J in both hydrogen and conventional versions.
