Do suction cups stick to crinkle dashes and consoles?

Everything is crinkle these days!!!!

Do some stick and other cheaper ones not stick?

Do I need to used a big supply of spit? Or vaseline jelly? Or will
that ruin the rubber cup so I have to use K-Y jelly?

As nospam says, you have to use adhesive.

I have glued a plastic disc, that originally came with an adhesive
layer, sold by TomTom. The other side of the disk is shiny (black) so
that the suction cup sticks to it (with a drop of water, it holds for
about two months).

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001763SRI

But my dash is not only a rough surface (I assume it is to reduce sun
reflection), but it is also curved, so that the adhesive disk can not
stick. Instead, I had to remove that layer and use an adhesive paste
that fills the gaps in the curve and does not reduce its volume as it
gets firm.

This way I can stick and remove the suction cup intact.

On another car, the suction cup broke down (the rubber) so in the end I
teared the rubber off, and stuck the plastic to the dash with adhesive
paste directly.

Cheers, Carlos.

In a word, no :-(

Suction cups require a very smooth surface such as glass, perspex or a
smooth Formica table. Anything with the slightest texture will cause the air
to leak out very quickly. I suppose if they used very soft, slightly tacky
rubber, instead of fairly rigid plastic for the suction cup, there is a
better chance that it could mould itself to the crinkles in textured plastic
such as car dashboards. But soft rubber wouldn't be as durable.

There are also thin sheets of jelly-like plastic which work nicely to
keep phones etc. from sliding off, but I'm unwilling to leave one on my
Corolla dashboard (which has NO horizontal surface) for fear of melting
in the sun -- a 365-day potential danger here. How can Toyota have
designed something so stupidly?

Suction cups rely on a smooth surface to work. Pressing down on a suction
cup forces the air out of the slightly conical cup, creatinga vacuum.
That vacuum is what provides the attraction that keeps the suction cup on
place. That is also why the easiest way to remove a suction cup is to
merely pry up the lip enough to let air enter.

Obviously, this all relies on a smooth surface so that there can be no
where around the edge of the cup where air can leak back in.

If one was in the mood to experiment, placing a slight bead of silicone
rubber around the perimeter of the suction cup and letting it cure.
Depending on the amount of 'crinkle' in the receiving surface, the
silicon rubber ring might be pliable enough to provide the seal needed to
allow the cup to adhere.

I _SPIT_ on suction cup phone mounts. Eventually they loae suction and
fal off. The vent mount phone mounts are also not a great idea, those
vents were not designed for that much weight.

If you have an unused CD slot in your dash, those mounts are pretty
secure. For older cars you get get a Panavise mount
<https://www.panavise.com/index.html?id1=30&startat=1&--woSECTIONSdatarq=30&--SECTIONSword=ww>
and use the top part of one of these
<https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000310597145.html> without the
handlebar mount. In one car I use one of these
<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F3F09NU> but eventually, as phones got
larger I replaced the tablet mount with a phone mount (same as above).

A bean bag works.
They sell them with holders for your phone.

Save the KY for the new condoms that just got approved.
