I tried liveUAMap but the ads were a pita.

Any good news apps for breaking news that don't have ads?

I use the Android browser Dolphin and turn off JavaScript and Cookies in
settings. Most sites I visit (including news sites) then only show the
photos and text. Any ads that make it through are no longer moving or
pop ups so don't bother me much. YMMV. My local newspaper site only
allows 5 views a month without a subscription. By turning off cookies I
get unlimited views. And for the paranoids here perhaps the lack of a
site's cookies on one's device also adds to a feeling of privacy...
