In Android 12, scrolling screenshot are native.
In any other Android, (apparently) it depends.

Apparently, it depends on the manufacturer of the phone how they did it.
Maybe you know more about how to take scrolled screenshots on _any_ phone?

On each of my phones I use a variety of screenshot tools, such as timed
screenshots (i.e., take a screenshot in ten seconds so I can set it up).
<https://i.postimg.cc/jq1KVPBk/screenshot01.jpg> Timed screenshots

But I'm on a new phone and new operating system from that last setup.

I recently needed a scrolled screenshot, which is pretty simple.
<https://i.postimg.cc/pdf8prL4/screenshot03.jpg> Example of scrolled shots

Searching Android settings found that I had the setting turned off.
<https://i.postimg.cc/02jpc9VK/screenshot02.jpg> Turn SS scrolling on

BTW, I had first googled for more information and was surprised a bit to
find out that Android 12 has this option natively, but I'm on Android 11 so
Samsung must have provided that "screenshot scroll" option based on this:
*How to take Scrolling Screenshots on your Android smartphone*
<https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-take-scrolling-screenshots-android/>

Since I found that data useful, I post it here for others to benefit.

Not in pure google/aosp android they're not. I don't take screenshots bigger

Hi Andy,
I apologize if I was wrong as I strive to quote from credible sources.
This may be one of the rare instances where I got my facts wrong then.

I trust that you know more about Android than I do, and I know you have
Android 12 on your Pixel 3 which I also know you keep updated rather well.

Yet I'm surprised that I got it wrong, which is embarrassing as I strive to
get all my facts correct & from credible sources (as all credible people do)

Let me look anew at the XDA-Developers article that I based my claim upon...
*How to take Scrolling Screenshots on your Android smartphone*
<https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-take-scrolling-screenshots-android/>
"With Android 12, Google has introduced the ability to take
scrolling screenshots by default"

While I strive to test almost everything I claim before I make the claim,
I don't yet have Android 12 on my phone (it's scheduled for May 2022).

Can you kindly look at the steps in that XDA-Developers' article and let us
know what part _they_ got wrong (or that I may have misinterpreted)?

The reason I ask is to learn what the _correct_ answer is, as my credibility
is my most valuable asset - so I need to be sure about what Android 12 has.

I suspect it's a Samsung One addition

Hi Andy,
As always, I defer to your acument over mine, but still...
I'm surprised if XDA-Developers got it wrong if that's the case.

It's not just XDA that claims Android 12 Pixels get native scrolled shots.
*How to take scrollable screenshots in Android 12*
<https://www.androidcentral.com/how-take-scrollable-screenshots-android-12>
"Android 12 added some impressive new features to Pixel phones
that other Android skins have had for years, including scrolling
screenshots."

Credible outfits are claiming Android 12 has scrolling screenshots,
but I notice this one says "support", which implies the app has to be new.
*Hands-on with Android 12's scrolling screenshot feature*
<https://www.androidauthority.com/scrolling-screenshot-android-1644341/>
"But wait no longer. With Android 12 beta 3, Google has finally
implemented scrolling screenshot support."

It may be that only the API was introduced native in Android 12.

*What's new with Android 12 Beta 3: All the announced features*
<https://www.xda-developers.com/android-12/>
"Android 12 Beta 3 was released on July 14th, and the highlight of this
release was the focus around practical and usable features, like:
Scrolling screenshots"

This also implies it's there, but the use model may not be intuitive.

*Android 12 Beta 3 is here with scrolling screenshots*
<https://www.xda-developers.com/android-12-beta-3-changes/>
"As we suspected, the way scrolling screenshots work in Android 12 is
based on Views rather than the image stitching found in OEM
implementations. When users capture a screenshot of content
that's scrollable, a new capture more button is shown that,
when tapped, extends the screenshot to show the whole screen
that the user can then adjust to crop."

However, there appears to be this caveat in that article above:
"Google says that scrolling screenshots will work out-of-the-box for
most apps, provided the app uses a standard View-based UI."

As always, I apologize openly and humbly if I got it wrong.
I'm sorry.

My credibility is my most important asset so I strive to be correct.

Regarding "Stichcraft"...

I always look up all the apps people suggest, so I just looked this one up
but I couldn't find it until I loosened up the filters a bit as shown below.
*Stitchcraft Free* by Zheteng, free, contains ads, requires GSF, 100+, 3.8
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.zheteng.android.stitchcraft.free>

In Aurora, I reset the filters to eliminate ads and gsf and a few popped up:
*Long screenshot: Longshot*, by Lucent Creation, 1000+, I don't see ratings
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ckt.long_screenshot_longshot_longscreenshot_fullscreen>

*Easy scrolling long screenshot*, by Source Code Tech, 1000+, rated 2.7
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.easy.scrolling.longscreenshot.app>

There were others but those were the first two on the list in case you're
interested in free, ad-free, gsf-free, google-free long-screenshot apps.

Since Andy and I already have working solutions, if anyone reading this
needs a long-screenshot tool, I ask you to test them for us and let everyone
know how they worked out for you.

I do get the new fancier screenshot, but it only has "share" or "edit" buttons,
not a "capture more" button

I regard it as adequate, not brilliant, it requires "draw on top of other apps"
permission to display its own toolbar while other apps are running.

Surprising that it's only in landscape mode but thank you for that extra
information, as I the one thing I hate most, is being wrong on facts.

Given every effort on Usenet should strive to add worthwhile value...

I wonder if I loosen the Aurora filter to allow gsf apps that the API that
it needs may be available to a long-screenshot app _without_ needed that?

First hit:
*Stitch & Share: longer screenshot* by Glitch, 2.7, 500K+
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glitch.stitchandshare>

This says it does scrolling screenshots and it can add a blur & edit areas.
*Screenshot Crop & Share* by Daniel Huber, 500K+, rated 3.5
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flextrick.universalcropper>

This hit claims to use a different method to "stitch" together "images"
*PhotoStitcher Take Scrolling Screenshots Free*, by Vertexshare, 2.3, 1K+
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vertexshare.longpic>

As always, given Usenet is a team sport, I ask others to pitch in to test
these tools if they have a need for a scrolling screenshot & editing tool.
