We have been wearing out nylon windsocks at a seemingly rapid rate. Maybe it has just been extra windy lately. We usually buy them from Wintek.

I did some research and found that the winsocks being sold are made from nylon, vinyl, or canvas.

Which material do you use? Who do you buy them from?

Our gliding club has gone thru a few nylon socks which only survived less than a year on the prairies. We then switched to a more durable material windsock supplied by Huffys: https://huffyswindsocks.com/ So far after one season it has shown now signs of wear or degradation.

My Airport Windsock Corp. windsock (https://www.airportwindsocks.com/Windsocks-s/144.htm) lasted four years on the prairie. The sunlight and howling wind took that long to finally tear it, but the urethane-coated nylon sock held up longer than expected.

Our vinyl socks have been lasting about a year - but it's been a brutal year lately.

I did some research on pricing of the big size 2 windsocks (36” X 144” - 3’ x 12’);

So Huffy is definitely the cheapest.

We decided this year to try the expensive canvas sock. Time will tell if the extra money makes any sense.

PS - I noted the Huffy sells imprinted socks. One example shown on their web site was imprinted with "Provided by Nevada DOT". FAA AC 150-5345-27F-Wind-Cone says "No lettering or logos are allowed on the windsock". Hmmmm.
