No, I don't really use it anymore but keep it in a drawer as a backup .
About all I do is charge the battery and turn it on a few times a year.

Might as well toss it because I can no longer connect to my home
wireless network...it just sits there trying to connect.

I did the network reset with no positive results.

I'm wondering about the possibility of an antenna failure. Even if I put
it right next to my router, it shows an extremely faint signal.

Not a big deal, just curious.

What is you exact question?

Hi Philo,

Don't mind Joerg Lorenz - he is so dumb he doesn't realize his IQ has to be
so far below normal it's not his fault he can't see the obvious question.

I wouldn't toss it simply because some carriers (T-Mobile for example)
offer a free phone with a working trade in of any phone, which is how I got
the last set of free phones from T-Mobile 18 months ago (Galaxy A32-5G).

Also, I just had a warranty replacement of one of those phones and it took
T-Mobile about a week elapsed time to replace it, where I actually used an
LG Stylo 3 Plus as the backup phone (it used the same nanoSIM card).

In addition, I bought a bunch of LG Stylo 3+ stocking stuffers in 2017.
<https://groups.google.com/g/comp.mobile.android/c/ls71mnkj4jk/m/wFfi0eDXDQAJ>

Years later, I bought Moto G stocking stuffers for those same recipients.
And then the Galaxy A32-5G gifts too (although they were Easter presents).

They gave me back the LG Stylo 3+ in some cases, and over time others died.
(The boys take their phones kayaking while the girls tend to baby them.)

Once really wonderful thing about those phones is the battery is removable.

As for your obvious question, it's unique (AFAIK) in this newsgroup to ask
how to debug a faulty Wi-Fi antenna so let me know if you need me to test.

You're not yet sure if it's hardware, so let's just gather some data first.
Most people on this newsgroup (like Joerg Lorenz) are idiots, so it may
take some searching to find the necessary help for you to debug the radio.

However, Steve (sms) is an electrical engineer so he can pitch in.
Meanwhile I'll see if I can try to help you as at least I can test things
for you on a similar phone (how different is yours from mine?).

My first thought is to wonder if the phone has _multiple_ radio antennas,
one for each radio, or if it uses the same tuned antenna for all radios?
I never thought about it but I would assume multiple antennas. Would you?

Even so, my first question to you is how do the other radios work?
a. NFC (I don't recall offhand if that LG has NFC though)
b. Bluetooth
c. GPS

More importantly, did you factory reset (just in case it's the software)?
Before you do that, you may want to extract all the APKs from the phone.
That way you can save the APKs to a desktop drive and then bring them back.

For each of my phones, when I retire it, I extract all the APKs so that I
can have an archive of APKs for that Android version for future use.

In my case, those are Android 7 APKs on that LG Stylo 3 Plus (as I recall).
Android 7 APKs tend to be more stable than using the current app APKs.

As for debug, I'm sure if we google we can find more but the first two
things I would do is install a wi-fi debugging program such as this one.
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=make.more.r2d2.cellular_z>

I realize the phone won't connect to your LAN SSID but you don't need it to
connect for that Wi-Fi analyzer to work. You just need the radio to be on.
(And in Android 7, you might not even need that as Google added that
requirement around Android 9 or 10 I think - but I'd have to check).

Second thing I'd install is some kind of hardware analyzer such as this
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.devcheck>
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.andr7e.deviceinfohw>

Note I'll try to never suggest any app that isn't free, ad free, gsf
spyware free, and google free without saying that it has those flaws.

As for not connecting to _your_ Wi-Fi, I have a situation at this very
moment where one of my many SSIDs sprinkled around the house won't allow
connections (for reasons unknown to me and untested by me).

So I took that radio and set it up as a bridge but my point is that it
"could" be on the other end, i.e., have you tested that it's not the radio
you are connecting to?

I assume your setup is simpler than is mine as I have _many_ radios.
<https://i.postimg.cc/YqTk0q1T/ap.jpg> Cellular repeater & home Wi-Fi APs

But my point of asking is whether or not you're sure the phone won't
connect to a _different_ radio, such as one at the local library may be?

Note that having an _open_ Wi-Fi (such as you might find at the local
library or at a coffee shop) would be an easier debug of the radio as there
are rare cases where I had problems with certain encryption schemes.

Also note there are (at least) two kinds of open wifi networks, where you'd
likely want to test both the ones like Barnes & Noble which bring you to a
web portal, and the ones that just connect you willy nilly like most home
router open networks do (without making you sign an HTML format agreement).

This is getting long (and unorganized as it's only what comes off the top
of my head as I drink my morning coffee) so I'm sure we can find further
debugging information for you to figure out why the Wi-Fi radio won't
connect on your LG to your home router SSID.

Again, I warn, this is off the cuff so it's disorganized. If we think about
it we can probably come up with a step by step wifi debugging process.

which in this case is to try to help answer the radio question philo asked.
