You have 1 billion years to pack. Start now. :)

Meanwhile, just run-of-the-mill cosmic rays have huge impacts on
planet dirt. I'm processing some cloud data for a project
and both cloud height and cloud amount (percent of sky covered)
is highly dependent on cosmic rays detected around the world.

There is even some indication cosmic particles modulate earthquake
activity e.g. affecting the average depth of major quakes.

Sirius A isn't massive enough to go supernova on its own, much less to
produce any kind of gamma-ray burst, and A and B are too far apart.

There aren't any stars large and close enough
to threaten us if they went off.

Maybe our own sun is more likely to cause
trouble than distant stars.

Solar storm of 2012
From Wikipedia,

The coronal mass ejection, as photographed by STEREO.

The solar storm of 2012 was an unusually large and strong
coronal mass ejection (CME) event that occurred on July 23
that year. It missed the Earth with a margin of approximately
nine days, as the equator of the Sun rotates around its own
axis with a period of about 25 days.[1]

The region that produced the outburst was thus not pointed
directly towards the Earth at that time.

Fortunately for us~

Vega isn't quite large enough for a type 2 supernova
but it's more than twice as large as the sun
and only 25 light years away, but expected to live
maybe another half billion years.

But it sure is pretty, here's a pic I took of Vega
last month.
