Over the next five years, three new heavy-lift rockets
will put thousands of satellites into low earth orbit
as part of Amazon's Project Kuiper.

The project aims to provide broadband connections using
a constellation of 3,236 satellites.

Rival Starlink is said to have more than 2,300 satellites
in orbit already.

The rockets will be made by Arianespace, Blue Origin -
which was founded by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos - and
United Launch Alliance.

.. . .

Ok ... while I can understand the business attraction, this
is getting totally out of hand. Soon, between Starlink and
the Amazon system there will be nearly 10,000 little sats
in low orbit. This is a huge impediment to astronomy and
a huge inconvenience, perhaps danger, to anybody trying
to launch any kind of payload, or people.

The current scheme is favored by relatively low costs -
it doesn't cost much to make a little Starlink sat and
you can launch them en-masse or in any units you want.
Spreading out the cost is a safe and flexible approach.

HOWEVER ... it may be time for REGULATION. That would favor
a lot fewer, but more capable, sats. As better connections
ARE in everybody's national interests (well, except maybe
China/NK/Russia's) there may be some way to buffer the
prices for commercial comm networks like Musk's and Amazon's
so there would be less risk in launching those "better" sats.
Not exactly "loans", but an easy way to do "time payments"
with some insurance thrown in.

If you're gonna buy - I'd suggest Starlink since Musk is
clearly a defender of Free Speech. Not sure how far I'd
trust Amazon ......
