When I was a kid about 50 years ago, SF was
a jewel. Everyone loved the place. It is sad
to see how it has deteriorated.

I visited SF on business during the early 90's. I loved the place!
It was great and I've visited most major cities in the US.
So sad that it is now a shit show.

Very true that downtown San Francisco has deteriorated, but there's no
need for those crazy-expensive flagship stores even if there were still
a lot of in-person workers and no crime. T-Mobile has other locations
minutes away by foot, as well as multiple stores in San Francisco's many
neighborhoods.

I went into that T-Mobile flagship store once, to move four lines to
T-Mobile. When it was clear that I had my own phones, and that I wanted
Simple Choice they wanted to charge me a bunch of fees to port the four
lines. I left and walked a few minutes west to another T-Mobile
location, a kiosk inside the Westfield mall, and accomplished the task
in a few minutes. I think that the kiosk employees are less likely to
try to upsell you or charge extra fees.

Fixing downtown San Francisco's problems is going to be a monumental
task. The decline has been gradual, beginning in the 1980's when living
wage blue collar union jobs began disappearing, exported by large
companies with the blessing of Ronald Reagan. Losing shipbuilding,
auto-making, aerospace, and electronics manufacturing jobs are what led
to the current situation with homelessness and drugs.
