Hi,

Is there a way in the youtube app used in Android, to tap and move
forward/backward 15" (for instance)?

Not sliding the rule, that's quite difficult when the video is two hour
long.

I see two forward/backward buttons "|<" "||" ">|" which AFAIK jump to
the next or previous video.

Why don't they emulate the VLC interface? It is wonderful.

I can press and hold on the red button in the slide rule, then move the
finger left or right. A tiny window lets me see a bit of the video at
that position.

Problem: instead of moving forward or backwards, for some reason,
youtube jumps to the next or previous video instead. Sometimes, it jumps
two or three videos.

My foss youtube client has in the settings a few options to do that.
Looking now, it has an option called "Fast-forward/-rewind seek duration"
which is set to 10 seconds (probably by default as I never changed it).

Clicking on it, I get an option for 10 seconds or 20 or 30 seconds only.
I never changed it but there's also an option to "Use fast inexact seek"
which is an on/off switch described in the settings as follows.

"Inexact seek allows the player to seek to positions faster with reduced
precision. Seeking for 5,15 or 25 seconds doesn't work with this"

I'm not really sure what that actually does but it's on by default.

double-tap at about 1/4 or 3/4 of the screen width, but avoid hitting
those left/right arrows which move back/forward between prev/next videos.

within settings you can set how many seconds it jumps, I find it more
convenient for sponsor segments to go forward 15 seconds, but back by 10
seconds

AH! Will try that, thanks.

Oh, I found that the problem I had with press and hold the sliding rule
is due to the tablet being connected at the same time to the charger,
and some chargers interfere with decoding taps correctly.

Some combination of noise and isolation (or is it insulation?).

I don't have a problem with "scrubbing" using the timeline ...
