I have been riding Conti GP's since the 4000. They have been great tires and hold up well. Very few flats and maybe I got through 2 sets without a flat if I recall. I generally get 5-6000 miles on them and swap.

Well my present set has about 5500 miles and the wear indicates are barely visible. I can see them but not much left and a bit squared off but expect that. I have had I believe 2 flats on these and one was a crazy pinch flat on huge pot hole.

I am going on retreat so no riding tomorrow and decide to put a new set of tires on the bike. I keep thinking that basically they have not flatted but not a lot of rubber. Some guys go right to the cords. I hate changing flats it is pain in the ass and I am pretty good about staying away from them.

So at this point the new tires look much better and all rounded nicely. In the back of my mind I think maybe I could have gotten another 500 miles, but my sense says stop. They really don't have cuts or anything as such either.

Do you all ride yours to the cords?
Deacon Mark

I respect the wear indicators on my Conti GP5000. I don't keep track of the mileage anymore since I use the Conti's (GP4000S, GP4000II and now the GP5000). Excellent tires. I'm just over 9000 km this year and had no flats I can remember. I ride Conti GP5000 on all my road bikes now.

No far from it, I generally replace the commute bikes tires when it’s
starting to look tired, ie worn and with significant glass cuts. At which
point they generally are getting close to 8k but though they could wear
longer, their ability to shrug off glass diminishes!

The gravel bike gets quite abrasive use so about 1/2 what I got with a pure
road bike, plus tires are softer etc, so about 1k miles on rear and 3k for
the front.

I probably shouldn't, but I often do. Our first tandem ride this year
was on a rear tire worn to the cords. I didn't discover that until we
flatted within the first mile. I should check more often.

GP5000's are fast tires and I tend to ride them fast. I would just as soon not get a flat going 30 mph at the bottom of a hill where I have to make a 90 degree right though gravel kicked onto the ride. So here I am at 180 lbs and I don't think I get more than a couple of thousand miles out of 5000's and I seldom switch ends with them because the rear profile wears flat pretty badly. I don't want to try high speed turns with that profile.

However, I do like NEW GP5000's and think that it is a good tire to ride on a Metric.
