I don't think that it is anything that can have any enlightening effect. Bicycle manufacturers can use it to insinuate that their bike is so light that it floats up mountains with no effort. But that's a bunch of hooey since there is a UCI weight limit and really the weight of climbing of the bike is a rather small percentage of the overall weight being lifted. As I said elsewhere, I'm not a racer and I'm not fast. I simply can't tell the difference in climbing on a 16 lb bike and a 22 lb bike. Racers who have to maintain high outputs over long periods no doubt could but I doubt most other people could.
