This is probably a W10 problem on this specific PC.
This worked on W7 on this PC before very recent upgrade to W10.

Plug phone into USB connection.
Phone vibrates.
Shows as charging.

Does not offer the option to transfer files or pictures.

I have tested on a W10 laptop and this does offer the prompt.

If I look at Connection & sharing, USB tethering is greyed out with "USB
not connected".

My tentative conclusion is that this particular W10 system is not
recognising the phone as a USB device so is not offering any connection.

However, I have no idea how to fix this.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Cheers

When I plug my Android 12 phone into my W10 desktop it doesn't appear
until I set the phone USB mode to file sharing.

OK.
Realised that it was a broader problem - that is, no USB ports seemed to
be working.

I reinstalled the USB drivers for the MoBo and everything (so far) is
working.

Disappointed that the Windows Upgrade to W10 screwed this up as the
drivers are 2014 and 2015 and are the same for W7 and W10.

Cheers

Thanks - useful utility.

First thing that I see is that
<https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07L32B9C2/>
is showing up as a generic USB 2.1 hub on Port 4.

I know that this is the correct hub because I just plugged my phone in and
it showed up there.

I can see my USB 3.0 card reader on Port 1.

However I can see a generic USB 3.2 4 port hub on Port 2 and I'm not sure
what this is as I don't have another hub plugged in AFAIK.
Ah! Same device.
Plugged in a USB stick and that shows up on the Generic USB 3.2 hub.
SanDisk 3.2 Gen1.

Think the release notes talk about this.

Anyway, very useful and there don't seem to be any errors reported.

Cheers

Dave R

P.S. All seems to be working on the PC side. Just need to get my Garmin
Edge Explore to agree that it is connected to a USB port, which is always
a dark art.

The "wiring" of USB hubs can be weird, even plugging a different speed
device into the same physical port can make it appear to be plugged into
a different named/numbered port.

Discovered that if I plugged it into a USB 2 port it worked first time.

Also realised that I had moved the 4 port hub from USB 3.0 to USB 3.1 port
during testing, so that may be the cause.

Perhaps I will test on the original port when I can be arsed.

Probably a completely different situation - but here's my own background.

On my Android 12 Samsung, I have no problem copying files from anywhere I
want to, and to anywhere I want to - using USB or Wi-Fi (or Bluetooth).

To and from Windows 10.

In my Android 12 Developer Options are _optional_ "USB Debugging" &
"Wireless Debugging" switches (both off by default) for things like adb
(which I use daily for scrcpy) to connect either by USB or via Wi-Fi.

There is an activity for "Default USB configuration" which by default has
(o) Transferring files
(_) USB tethering
(_) MIDI
(_) Transferring images
(_) Charging phone only

I have no idea even why that "Default USB configuration" even exists though
as I don't mess with it & I have no problem sliding files back & forth.
